Is Hotwire.com a legitimate and secure site to book car/hotel rentals?

Check cheap tickets.com first though - better deals there sometimes.

yeah, i've used them.  also, you can go to betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel.com and they have forum where people have been able to identify the hotels.  i drove cross country and used those sites together and got great deal without being freaked out about where i'd end up.  Good luck!

Yes, just note that for car rentals they are non refundable and can not be modified (eg. if your flight is changed.)

You can often get better rates booking directly with car rental companies using publicly available discount codes.  You do not have to pay when you book and can modify your booking at any time.
