  1. Personally, I like it. I use a tiny bit of olive oil for some flavor and it doesn't taste bad.

I like it with Sun Chips or celery.

It's not horribly bad for you, it has some protein and all that. Probably one of the healthiest dips you can find. Like someone said before though, some kinds contain a ton of salt. Not all though.

Murphy's Deli sells really great Hummus. If you have one near you I reccomend checking it out :)

  2. Yes I find it good, but alternating with other stuff, and on pita, nan or whatever you want to call it.

    Cheers

  3. In moderate doses, yes. It contains a balance of carbs, protein, and fat which can definitely be part of a good diet. Some varieties can be quite salty and fatty though, so don't OD on it for this reason.

Oh, and olive oil reducing cholesterol? I've never heard of this: I'm not saying it might not be true, but could you post the evidence for this?

  4. Hummus is a dip made from chickpeas, tahini, and lemon juice.  Sometimes people add red peppers, garlic, or other seasonings for flavor.  Make your own or avoid the kind with artificial ingredients, and what would be bad?  It's not fat free, like salsa is, but I'd say it's fairly good for you.

  5. yes, hummus is one of my favorite foods ever, put some on a bagel with cucumbers and its a super easy lunch :)

  6. Yes, it has lots of iron and protein. Hummus is delicious, I eat it almost every day

  7. Yes ... it would be an excellent source of protein for you.  And, it has some olive oil, which helps lower cholesterol

  8. Hummus is very, very good for you and has been a main staple of mediterranean diets for thousands of years. Chickpeas, the main ingredient of hummus, have 8 grams of protein and only 2 grams of fat in each 3.5 oz serving. Also, 1/2 cup of chickpeas contain 6 grams of fiber.

Hummus is traditionally made with tahini, a ground sesame paste that tastes a bit like peanuts, lemon and garlic. Because tahini is an oily food, hummus is not usually made with olive oil (some packaged varieties add it but most homemade hummus is not). If olive oil is added it is just a light drizzle just before serving, along with a sprinkling of smokey paprika.

(To the person who asked): Extra virgin olive oil (olive oil made from the first pressing of the olive) has been medically proven to lower cholesterol due to its high content of monounsaturated fats and antioxidative substances. See source below.

My family is Italian and Greek. We often step outside the traditional box and add roasted red peppers, cumin, or lime instead of lemon to our hummus but we make it at least 3x a week and serve it with grilled pita bread. I didn't like it for years but seem addicted to it now!

  9. Hummus, yes it's good for you.

  10. It is good for you. I love Hummus stuffed in jalapeno peppers.

  11. Yes, but some people do not like the taste of it. I love to eat it on Pita bread or crackers.

  12. hummus is yummus

  13. You mean hummus?

And it is, and it tastes good too!

  14. Yes as a snack mixed with chili sauce, high in protein and fibre, i like it as it helps your bowel movements and makes me f**t.

  15. Yes it is good for you but I personally think it tastes awful.
