Is Hyundai an equivalent to a Kia... as in a cheap brand of cars?

Im lookin into a Hyundai and my cousin says no that they are cheep cars just like a Kia... is this true?

  1. Hyundai owns Kia motors, and many of Hyundai brands are sent to Kia and rebadged, for example the Accent is sent to Kia and becomes the Rio. The Hyundai Elantra becomes the Kia Spectra.  The Hyundai Tucson is the Kia Sportage, now keep in mind the two may share subtle differences such as ride, features and the like.  Kind of like Ford and their Mercury equivalents.  Hyundais have been vastly improving in quality I would assume Kia would be the same, still check it out before you buy.
