Is fibreboard strong enough for a bed? Im looking to buy ODDA from ikea and I want it to last for a long time.

Furthermore, generally is fibreboard good or bad in terms of strength?

  1. If it's fiberboard, it's probably the best you can find.

One thing I'd check on is real wood from a furniture store and compare prices.

Even though IKEA is a good brand, I believe part of what you pay for is the name.

If it's actually significantly less than comparable real wood from a conventional store, I'd still buy IKEA with confidence.

They aren't going out of business anytime soon.

  2. It's pretty good quality, but not your best.

  3. Ikea is great for cheap furniture.

But if your looking for a lifetime piece, you will need to spend real money and get solid wood.

dont forget, as with anything you get what you pay for.

  4. fiberboard is pretty dense. combined with the platform design of many of their beds it's durable enough for normal use (meaning an adult sleeping on it and not kids jumping on it). their metal beds have a slat roll for support which is also pretty strong. they do say they put their products through durability tests but I am not sure what the warranties are.  as others said it's not a lifetime piece, you won't be able to hand it down to your kids (LOL) but it's great looking and good quality for the money.

  5. Made me remember the funniest cartoon I've ever seen:

  6. The furniture IKEA sells is "cheap" stuff. If you want anything to last, get solid wood. Fiber board is flimsy and the screws/nails will not stay in the stuff. They have tried to improve on the  "quality" by using  plastic type anchors. They also will pull out over time. Get some real wood in quality furniture and save yourself allot of time, money and disappointment.

  7. Fiberboard is never going to be as strong or long-lasting as solid wood. If money is an issue, why not buy a used wood frame and re-finish it yourself?

  8. from experience... NO!!!!! i got an ikea fibreboard table a couple of years ago, and it began 2 wear away within a few days!!!!!!!!! it almost totally collapsed less than 2 years later an im understandably a lot more cautious furniture-wise these dayz
