Is IPL the reason for India’s defeat?
Part 1
News and headlines poured in from all across the globe after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s grasp.
As for India’s share, the tourists earned an immense lot of angry homeland fans, coupled with some out loud criticism, especially from the team’s own cricketing fraternity, which included former Indian cricketers slamming their national team as well as its
governing body, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI), for posing a degrading run at the opening Test series from the team’s proceeding Tour to England 2011.
However, many agreed that the people’s annoyance was rightfully acceptable since the tourists had made some loud claims prior to the tour bragging much about its ‘destructive’ batting line up featuring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/VVS-Laxman-c2772 as well
as a ‘hyped’ and threatening bowling roster.
As for the country’s Board, following mighty England’s 3-0 lead, BCCI was recently accused for not planning ahead of the tour, which the Board too agreed stating that it ‘tried hard to hammer home the point that there cannot be a discussion on the England
tour’.
However giving the whole scenario a reality check, the blame game brings out a lot of verdicts into why India came out with such a humiliating display at a much awaited cricketing event that was stated to be even ‘bigger than the Ashes’.
Many reasons came up for the team’s defeat; a side which recently dominated the Test format through the much capable batting line-up and then trotted into winning the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Cricket World Cup 2011.
However, out of the lot, many fingers are now being pointed out towards the cash cow, the Indian Premier League (IPL), which, by many, is being cited as one of the primary reasons for India’s whitewash at Lords, then at Trent Bridge, and the eventual mammoth
defeat worth innings and 242 runs at Edgbaston, marking as the worst in the history of the team.
Going back in time, it was the IPL that received some out loud criticism following India’s shameful defeat against the visiting South African team at Ahmedabad in 2008, where the hosts, under the captaincy of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 lost to an innings and 90 runs marking
another degrading lost, first time in 50 years.
The match that resulted in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 achieving a 1-0 lead came close to the IPL season in 2008 as a result of which the nation’s media and former cricketers slammed India for losing out on the test following continuous shooting of commercials and attending
IPL functions during the Test matches.
Even so, many players did not even turn up for the net practices, which came as a result of over exhaustion.
As for the current affair, similar likes of 2008 were seen in the English series, since the players recently wrapped up another cash rich 4th season of the IPL just prior to England’s Tour.
However, with the kick off to the Tour, the Indians began with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Z-Khan-c98379 suffering an early hamstring injury during the opening game at Lords, that forced the pacer into sitting out on the remaining fixtures.
The remaining part of the abstract continues in part 2.
