  1. Big ol' scam. Don't waste your money. You aren't going to learn anything worthwhile with these people.

  2. Do some research. iPOP! is not a new organization and you should be able to research agents and managers that attend this event. Call them! All respectable agents and managers have telephone numbers in the yellow pages...go to yellowpages.com They will give you a true and honest answer. Don't be surprised if they ask you to submit a snap shot or audition tape. But remember, they may ask you how soon you can relocate to their market...which is only realistic. Can your parents afford to do that?  Can you afford to do that?

Next, remember that the fashion and entertainment industry is a tough one. Reportedly over 60,000 girls a year attend open calls at the Ford Modeling Agency in New York City (by the way, Ford does not endorse any type of convention, including iPOP!) and less then 100 hopeful models make it to their testing board. From those 100, an average of 30 new models a year actually move to the regular booking boards and become a model with Ford. Thats tough!

iPOP! and JRP are pretty much the same company. I attend an iPOP! event recently as a guest and I can tell you that you learn a great amount from just listening. iPOP! president is a guy named Joseph, JRP president is a guy named Ron, who seems to be in complete control of iPOP!, and the two are domestic partners. Can't get much closer than that!  Also, I researched the iPOP! vice president, a Tiffany, who use to write articles for JRP in pageantry magazine. You have to love the internet. The buzz at the last iPOP! is how a number of the contestants had been trained by iPOP! themselves. I overheard two JRP owners, atleast I think they were owners, speaking about how unfair it was to be recruiting outside of JRP and then training contestants to compete in the convention they run. That sounded a bit unfair, like Donald Trump's organization training our Miss Missouri to compete in the Miss USA pageant, which they run (I am certain their are probly laws against this). You have to do what is right for your career. I have no clue what city you live in, and the word SCAM is much to easy to use in this type business. Most the people who use the word SCAM want to be in this industry, but can't afford it. A true SCAM is when you actually pay for something and either don't receive it or receive something that is not acceptable to what you were told.  Get everything in writing. Then if it appears to be a true scam contact the attorney general of your state.

No one famous actor or model shares the same path as another in reaching their goal. Evaluate what opportunity is available to you and realize that some iPOP! contestants have used the convention to open doors, and many have had their doors closed. Many people can not afford the convention cost, which is determined by which avenue you are using to get to LA.  (Independent recruiters charged less then the JRP centers.)  It is really important to also remember that every JRP, or any modeling and talent organization, is only as good as the person in charge of the local operation and the people in charge of the training and marketing of the talent. Everyone...agents, managers, casting agents, iPOP!, JRP, ...are all in business to make money. That is why they are businesses!!

Final note: my friends daughter did not win any prizes at this event. She did get a call back from C.E.S.D., an extremely respectable agency and things might work out. Of course, they will have to relocate to LA for several months.  So remember...research!

  3. DON"T DO IT! it's a scam seriously! i went to jrp when i was 4 and my parents paid thousands of dollars and i was one of the rare children that got an agent but they were bad and totally scammed me anyways don't go! but i really want to be an actress and i just started going to this place called be here is a link.
