Did Phelps’ 8 Gold Medals close the final chapter in Thorpe’s book?

Don’t despair Thorpe still has a future.

Thorpe could validate Phelps’ parking or star in the next Harold and Kumar movie:

“Escape from Australia”

  1. Why would that be?  While he may no longer actively compete, his record as a swimmer still stands up as stellar.

Just because his records have been eclipsed doesn't mean he wasn't a great swimmer.

  2. yawn - is that the best taunt you can come up with?

I am sure Ian is enjoying his IOC official membership and the millions of dollars he made doing Japanese commercials, selling Armani, as we speak.

  3. He is irrelevant. See the Aussies are mad becuase I said he was irrelevant. Phelps is 10 times better than Thorpe ever was.

  4. He beat Phelps in Athens.  That's all that matters when it comes to comparing the two :)

I'm saddened that he retired so early, but he was one of the best ever.

  5. maybe

  6. Basically.

  7. Thorpe will be relevant again when the second serires of thorpees angels comes out

  8. yep, especially after running his big mouth and saying before the olympics that there was no way michael phelps was going to win 8 gold medals. i'll bet he feels stupid now
