I have a friend who has been an activist for a cause for 15 years. She has now stated she is going to start doing exactly what she has been fighting against for 15 years ,because she doesn't want to do it anymore, and "its not working for her".

How could a person do a 360 like that ?

  1. Dear Friend,

I would like to put forth the proposition that all things, regardless of our knowledge of them, affect us since, after all, we are all connected. So, therefore, ignorance is nothing more than a guise begging us to take down and dismantle. Only in knowledge of the things in the world, in existence, affecting you (good or bad) will one be able to change the future for the better (or worse...)

  2. If a person sees what he/she

was doing is not right. He/she

can, will, make a complete turn

    around.

  3. "Our happiness in life depends on our not knowing it all too well." -Durant (on Schopenhauer)

"The more you know, the more it hurts."

"Theology is a refuge from death; insanity is a refuge from pain... suicide is the final refuge." (Schopenhauer)

    How could a person do a 180? (its actually a 180, not a 360 FYI)

    - every "cause" a person decides is worthy of a life course is only "worthy" so long as it is instrumental to desire. When you lose desire, you lose care for the cause. Desire has no master; instead, desire is the master, to which the servitude is ours. So, if your friend desires to go against what she has been "fighting for" then desire will reign supreme.

At any rate, there is no cause or action that we truly live for in the name of reason-- we live for things based on emotion (desire, pride, revenge, etc). If you subtract the "emotion" from the "Cause" you will see the logic of it: logic = "one may dedicate 5 or 500 years, and the world will still be crooked today as it was yesterday, and the day before, and so on and so forth." This is why logic is no master- we cannot listen to it for long. We require emotion to propel us.

There is nothing wrong with what your friend did. She simply recognized the futility of action. Live your life. Enjoy.

  4. It depends on the cause. Maybe she found out that her cause was not worth fighting for and that there is a reason why it's done.

  5. So, what is your question: "Is ignorance bliss?" or "How can a person do a 360?" and do the exact opposite?

1 . Yes ignorance is bliss. The ignorants don't even realize that they are ignorants, so they have no problem with that. The others do.

    2. If a person does a 360 then they end up facing same view, having same opinions. (360 is a full circle). I think you meant 180 which is the exact opposite.

Well, she must be disappointed of something, and her expectations were not met even after 15 years. So something must be wrong, and she's right if that's the way she thinks, as if you follow the same path you can't end up in a different place. She needs a change to  feel better about herself. Maybe not that radical (she might of been angry when she stated that) but some changes must be done.

Good luck to both of you. :)

  6. Wait a minute, sweet.  Who in this scenario, is ignorant.  Do you support her cause, enough to do something about it as she has, donating fifteen years of her resources.  Walk a mile...

    ...in her shoes.

    Ignorance is not bliss.

LOL, sorry about that, came down pretty hard on you...it hadnt occured to me YOU might be a part already.

I don't thing she's 'quitting' out of ignorance.

Yea, sorry again, exhaustion can be as persuasive as anything with a principle.  (smile)     What, for example is she running 'toward' vis-a-vis running from.

  7. If you are happy 'ignornace'  (sic) must be bliss as you can't spell ignorance.

Sorry for that, sure it was a typo.

Sometimes it is as it can be better not to know about a real problem or mistake you have made than to deal with the problem itself or the guilt from the mistake you have made.

  8. A 360 occurs when one can see ones own spirit and stops listening to the ego which is only desire for self when one listens to the spirit one can be self-honest. Therefore if one was doing only what you wanted and continued to ignore spirit once you decided to listen a 360 occurs. Also the same can be true in an opposite direction when your ego decides the spirit is asking too much and you start listening to that mentality then you turn in an opposite direction, the wrong direction, only the ego can not see and furthermore will not allow you to either.

"Each man is right in his own mind but the spirit is always honest." Not my words.
