  1. "Imitation crab" actually comes from a fish called "pollack."

an ocean fish of the cod family, with a protruding lower jaw. Native to: North Atlantic.

  2. Crab sticks are a type of processed sea food made of surimi(fish puree/slurry), or finely pulverized white fish flesh, that has been shaped and cured to resemble snow crab legs. The individual pieces are usually coloured red or yellowish red, and rectangular-oblong in shape, and small strings of the crab sticks can be neatly pulled and torn out in a similar manner to string cheese. The smell of crab sticks is similar to sea-food product, the texture is rubbery, and the taste is slightly salty. Crab sticks are cooked during the curing process and can be eaten directly from the package. Sometimes, the actual crab sticks are called "surimi".

You can boil it, cook it with soup, or slice it and cook with fried noodle or rice...

  3. It's fish.  Cook it the same as you would crab.

  4. imitation crab meat is made from Alaskan pollock fish that is processed, seasoned, and colored until it looks like crab meat. I searched for more information on the net and discovered this site:

  5. They use a lot of pollock, which I (hope) is a type of fish.

But there's also a lot of wheat starch in it.

So if you're diabetic, be careful.

Real crab meat - no carbs.

Imitation crab meat - check the label.

  6. imatation crab meat is usually fish meat. as far as i know its cooked because i have had some right out of the package on a salad. my friends mom put some the grill with corn and it was pretty good.

  7. Imitation crab is Fish.  Usually Pollack.  It is already cooked and can be eaten straight from the package.

  8. yeah,it fish :)

  9. i think it might be like tofu oppose to chicken.

i mean it does say 'imitation'

    im not sure tho.

    google works best dear.

  10. Some of it is made from skates.

  11. Immitation crab meat is a type of Surimi.

You can find out way more than I want to know about it here:

The imitation crab meat is about half way down the page.

It's usually made from Pollock. I saw a show about it on Discovery Channel.

If the package has a kosher symbol(circle K) on it. then there is zero crab meat in it.

  12. Imitation crab meat is white fish that has been emulsified and then formed with flavorings and coloring.

I think it is already cooked, happens in the processing of it.  I hope, cause I usually use either it or fake shrimp, lobster  in salads.  Only as a last resort!

However, it is inexpensive and contains the same amout of protein that you would get in an equal serving of fish.

  13. Its made with fish products, and yes it is cooked. You can use it right out of the package to make a nice crab salad sandwich mixed with dill, mayo, chopped green onions and lemon juice

  14. Alaska Pollock is what imitation crab is actually made of. This is a type of fish. I've never seen imitation crab that hasn't already been pre-cooked so I think you may be mistaken about this. It tastes great cold with shrimp sauce.
