  1. Ireland (ROI) has the fastest growing population  and economy in the E.U. and has changed in many ways over the last 25 years, yet it is still a place where people have time to talk to you.

The standard of Education is very high, and children have a very good knowledge of the world about them. Second and third level education is very good, and this is one of the magnets drawing many firms into the country looked for highly educated and skilled employees. It has a very high standard of living, which is now higher than the United Kingdom. Wages are in general higher than a lot of the member states in the E.U. and as a result some prices are higher, some lower, and some on a par with many other countries. It has a fair amount of rain during the year, much the same as many parts of western Europe, but the winters are milder now than they were 30 years ago, and there is very little snow. in general it is a good place to bring up a family, and also, people will pass you the time of day in Ireland, which does not happen as much in many parts of the United Kingdom, and I speak from experience. People are friendly, but of course we all must remember that friendship is a two way channel.

There are plenty of opportunities for people to have a good life in Ireland, indeed we have people from 153 Nations living  in the Country, and helping to build up our Nation. Also, we now have 117 different languages spoken in the country. If you do join us, I have no doubt that you will receive a Cead Mile Failte. (100 thousand welcomes )

  2. neither are any good for work and raising kids if they were my parents would still be there & not in Australia for the past 50 years ago

  3. Are we just talking between the Republic and the North??? If we are then there is not much differances

Apart from that then there is big differances between the rest of the UK and Ireland......probably more oppurtunities for children in places in the Uk than in Ireland i.e.better schools etc.

  4. For me Ireland is better than UK because they are more kindly and friendly

  5. I've lived North & South of the border. The North isn't the best to raise kids because of the religious divide but that is getting better these days. Its also less expensive to live in the North as pricing is similar to the U.K. although in the North you don't pay poll tax or water taxes so its cheaper again than the rest of the UK.

South is very expensive including housing pricing, taxes and anything else the GOV can take from you pockets. Also, if you get over here soon you can pay for our prime ministers taxes that he failed to pay a few years back, welcome to rip off Ireland.

Honestly though, the UK and Ireland both have the pro's & con's. The education system in Ireland is good for the kids, I would base my move decision on that alone.

  6. I lived in Northern Ireland for 6 years and visited the Republic a few times. The education system is better if you get into a Grammar school and if you have Irish qualifications it is harder to get into a decent university because the competition for the native ones is so high. I had to go back to England to study what I wanted despite having high grades. It also rained a lot and frankly I found it really boring with loads of religious orientated nutters. It wasn't bad by any means but it was hardly fun.

  7. It depends if you mean the Bit where they have Ex Murder squad leaders as Education Secretarys or not..............

  8. I think so, though it does depend on what part of Ireland. They have a fantastic education system, which I believe is superior to that of the UK's. They also have a much more tolerant way of life and while crime and violence is hardly "non existent" its on a much lower and serious scale.

Dublin has evolved at a serious magnitude over the last 20-15 years in terms of being an international point of business. There are plenty of opportunities to carve out a serious career and living though things like property prices and cars are through the roof.

Personally I'm looking to move their myself in the future.

  9. Depends what part of the UK you mean.

I live in Northern Ireland and to be fair, as someone else said, there is still quite a bit of issues between Catholics and Protestants, and it is the one thing I really hate about this country. Ireland has a better education system but it's just a case of it being so much more expensive, and I also prefer Stirling to Euro. In terms of working and raising kids I'd say probably Ireland would be the best place.

  10. Of course it is.....wages are much higher..... But then as i'm Irish i would say that. To be honest, I'd say there is not much of a difference, but i do think our education is better. At least our kids know that Winston Churchill was a real person.

  11. ireland is c**p in relation to working and everything being over priced but i guess it depends what you work as. But for raising kids i'd say its the best, but only in the west of Ireland(which is beautiful and the folk are lovely and you really do come across some characters, better still go to Galway cause that is absolutely the best place ever, even if you lived in the city cause it really is a nice city, plus the schools in the country are very very good)

  12. Depends where you are moving from and what part or Ireland? I have family in southern Ireland and they have done well for themselves.

  13. A good way to see if Ireland ie the republic of ireland is a better place to live than the UK is to compare it to northern Ireland. After all it is yours, The republic is top of the league when compared to the UK, in fact we are on top of the UNs list of best places to be brought up(children), given we have not got everything right, but we are working on it.

Also the second level end of school exam in the republic is one of the hardest in the world.

And one final thing Jade goody(as an example) would never make it in ireland as people would not tolerate that level  of ignorance, most irish people can tell you where east anglia is, thats the level of education thats available here. Third level education is practically free and the maintenance grants do not have to be paid back.
