  1. No...it's light for six months of the year, and dark for the other six months. I don't understand your reference to the Moon, as the Moon has regular day and night: the days are about 14 Earth days long, and the nights are 14 days long as well.

  2. At the South pole, the Sun "rises" around mid-September and stays above the horizon until late March.  The civil twilight -- a period when the Sun is less than 6 degrees below the horizon and could still be considered 'properly lighted' if you are really pressed -- adds another 2 weeks at both ends.

On the Moon, at the latitudes where the flags are, the sun stays above the horizon for roughly 14.8 Earth-days then below the horizon for another 14.8 Earth-days.

  3. no. 24 hour daylight in the summer, 24 hour darkness in the winter. ditto at the north pole.

  4. Roughly speaking..the poles go thru 3 month cycles. Night, normal, day, normal and  back to night again. At the equinoxes the poles have relatively normal sunrise and sunsets. At the solstices they have either day or night, where if the north is pointed to the sun it is day and the south pole night and vice versa.

AS far as the flag...by proclamation, the flag can fly at designated areas 24 hours a day. During which it should be lit at night. The moon and other areas of science exploration are accepted special as it is impossible to light the flag at night. For other or any flag questions feel free to email me as the flag is a special area of study for me.

  5. no the sun goes everywere it dosent stay in one place

  6. Like everywhere else on Earth, the Sun is above the horizon a little bit more than half the time (because of refraction).  The Sun usually sets around March 24, and rises again on September 19.  This time of year, it is dark 24 hours a day.

There is a display of flags of all the Antarctic treaty nations in a semi-circle around the South Pole, but these are usually taken down in the winter.

  7. no i was listenign to some researchers a t the pole nad they say that 1/2 the year they loose light and warmth as they are turned away fromt he sun.

it is freezing and they have a generator to keep them warm.

they have no means of escape for a period of months as it is too cold to humanely be picked up by a helicopter.( air ppressure)

  8. For half the year, yes it is.  The other half is dark, or twilight.

  9. Not at this time of the year. It's winter there.

  10. no

  11. No - just like the north pole, the south pole has a couple months of 24/7 darkness and a couple months of 24/7 light.

  12. It depends.  During the summer, when the south pole is tilted towards the sun, it probably is light all day.  During the winter, when it is tilted away, it is probably never light.

  13. No !!! They have about 3 months of total darkness.
