Is It Illegal to Own a Pet Fox in the United States?

I was thinking the other day it might be cool to have a pet fox. Just like a dog, with rabies shots, and a collor, and everything, but do you need a permit to own one, or is it just illegal?

A friend of mine knows a lot about animals and wild animals and such. You need some type of license to have a wild animal live at your house. I have no idea how it all works though.

I'm pretty sure you would need a special permit from your state's wildlife resource agency.

You might need a permit; a more important thing is there is no approved rabies vaccine for foxes. Moreover, not many vets will treat foxes for that reason. And did you know that foxes smell as bad as skunks? Vets won't descent foxes, either. Still interested in getting a fox? Good luck, you'll need it.

I think you need to get a permit or be a animal care taker in wild life.But remember even though its trained its still wild at heart.

A fox is wild life.  You should talk to a game warden about that.
