Is It Possibe To Hookup A Laptop To the TV?

Question

I want to get a new TV, but is it possible to hookup a laptop to a tv? If so what wires or ports are needed on either? Is it easy? thank you.

if your laptop or you tv both have svideo port, u can svideo them, and get great quality or go with answer #1

Absolutely. That said, it depends on a few things...

The easiest way would be to take a standard VGA monitor cable and connect it to both your laptop and your TV. However your TV must support VGA connections. Then enable external monitor display on your laptop, probably by hitting something like Fn + F5. There's usually a small monitor icon on one of the F keys.

If your TV does not have a VGA port then chances are it supports S-Video, Composite or both. S-Video is the one with the 4 tiny pins inside and looks sort of like a keyboard connector. Composite is the standard yellow RCA jack that just about every TV has but is slightly crappier on the video quality. Both are far crappier than VGA.

If your laptop has an S-Video or Composite output on it then you simply connect the appropriate cable to it and the TV. Then go to your display properties, hit the Advanced button and enable the TV display (this part depends on your display driver software and may have to be downloaded from the manufacturer's website).

depends on the inputs of your TV and the outputs of the PC...

your best choice would be to get a laptop with HDMI or DVI outputs... (if your TV supports HDMI but not DVI, or the other way around dont worry, you just buy the appropriate HDMI to DVI cable)

your next option would be if your TV had VGA input... many newer hdtv's have this type of input...

any other method to connect a PC to a TV is worthless, as the picture quality will be terrible with standard RCA component connections, or Svideo connections... not even worth the time or effort...
