Question:

Is It Possible To Learn Piano On Your Own?

I'm 14 right now, and I don't want to bother my mom, with paying for the piano lessons, since I already have acting, and dancing lessons, so I was wondering if I can do it alone. Thanks! =]

  1. ya i learnd trumpit on my own

  2. yeah you can

just look up some chords online and start from there :]

  3. Yes. I learned on my own. you should get some chord books, and simple music to start out with, then move on to some harder music. Also, my keyboard has a setting that showed me what notes were playing on the staff, as well as on the keyboard, so i knew if i was right on the notes. :)

  4. http://www.learnpianoonline.com/welcome....

this website is great for free online lessons just print them out and play it was very easy but you have to practice a lot to get good

  5. Yeah, it's just a little harder and you have to really a WANT to learn...

  6. Depending on what style you want to play, it can be a good thing to learn on your own. If you are going for concert/classical type songs, I would get a teacher. If you can't get a teach and still want to go this route, buy a couple of basic instructional books and slowly learn how to read music. It can't be that tough, there are so many internet instructional videos and such that you can search for. But if you want to play pop songs and sing or play in a band doing it yourself can be a really good thing. (think elton john type songs or really any type of band) I've played in numerous bands, and the keyboard players that were self taught, just by learning scales and chords by ear, always got the flow of the music more naturally, whereas the trained players felt out of place with other musicians and asked me for sheet music, because they didn't know what to do.  Obviously, this is not always the case, and lessons definitely have value, but my cousin hasn't had any lessons , and he always impresses with his improvisation and general style. If you do get lessons, be sure to just jam out with friends once and a while, and don't just play the one song your teacher gives you to learn every week. It is important to experiment with what just comes to you.

  7. Of course you can.  You would probably pick it up faster with a teacher but its still doable.
