Question:

Is It Really Environmentally Friendly to Unclog My Sink Like This?

I heard that instead of using chemicals and products to unclog my sink, I should put about a cup of baking soda down the sink and then add in some vinegar. Wait a while, and then pour boiling-hot water down the drain to wash it all away. I really, really want to be environmentally friendly - so is this an okay practice to do? Any suggestions? Any other ways that I can clean and stay environmentally friendly?

  1. This is best for your pipes.

  2. Yes it is. . . there are some non toxic cleaners all over the place out there nowdays, but why stray from a time proven classic?  It has never failed me yet :)

Good luck to you :)  I know how hard it is to get rid of old habits of cleaning :)

    probably yes.

  4. It may work depending on how bad your drain is clogged.  It is also better for your pipes than some of the caustic drain cleaners.  There is also a new thing that I saw on QVC that cleans your drains by forcing air through the pipes it seems to work extremely well on all drains with adaptors for sink, shower, tub, etc.  It is even reasonable.
