  1. Yes, it is standard procedure. The first set of blood work, they will test for it. The mother must sign a consent form before it is done though.

  2. yes, as far as i know it is. when i was pregnant they did blood test on me

  3. It is standard for pregnant women to be tested for HIV/AIDS and other std's twice during pregnancy. Dr's don't normally test a newborn for it unless the mother has tested positive or had unprotected intercourse with someone whose medical history she does not know during her pregnancy.

  4. i had a baby 8 months ago and while i was pregnant, the nurse took tested me for hiv a few times during the 9 months.  it is just a precaution.

  5. That was one of the blood tests they did on me when I was first pregnant.  I don't think they check the newborn, though.

  6. I am not sure about the newborns, but I know that it was part of the bloodwork they did on me with both pregnancies during one of the 1st Dr. visits.

  7. I know that they test us once in the begining of the pregnancy and then again at about 6 months. I'm not really sure if they test newborns, but I don't remember them testing my daughter when I had her.

  8. I did the test a while ago and I am 26 weeks 6 days.  The dr. said it was normal to check just to be sure.  I don't know about the newborn yet because I don't have any other children.

  9. they usually do, if you've ever had unprotected s*x (obviously if you're pregnant... well, you get it). When I went for my first prenatal exam I had a pap smear, they checked for all kinds of STDs, HIV, blood type. It's pretty standard. Sometimes they even order a drug screen.

  10. yes it's standart, they do this i think twice while the woman is pregnant and also once for the baby when it is born...
