Question:

Is It Too Late To Start Track?

I'm going to be a freshman in high school this year and I've been thinking of starting track. I'm not sure what event I'd do, but I will probably aim to be a sprinter in the 100m. Is it too late to start? And if it's not, how should I get ready for track season?

  1. no, i just started track last year, when i was a freshman!!!

  2. No it is not to late to start track. You should run almost every day.!

  3. of course it's not too late your still young.,. we're both freshies haha but my dad always tell me to train because i play soccer and you should train, practice, and exercise.,. it'll help a lot :D

  4. There are several elite runners who did not start track until late in life, relatively speaking.

Your objective should be to run, enjoy your experiences, learn new things, about track and yourself.

Don't worry about being good or the best, just do your best.

Talk to the coack and get on the team's program for pre season.

  5. Track is one of the those sports where it's never too late. You can always train and work harder to be better than those who have been training already. Plus, being fast isn't a skill, your just born like that. I mean you can train to get faster but if your no fast you'll never be a sprinter, just like if you can't run for miles without running out of breathe you won't be a mile or 2 mile runner. It's all in how focused your willing to be and how hard your willing to work. I started track in 6th grade at my middle school and it was pretty lame compared to when I hit freshman year. I won 4 medals in 8th grade and when I got to high school the competition was ten times more fierce and competitive, but since I worked hard I was 20 something in the state last year in the 100m with a time of 11.4.

So, it takes work, but you can do it.

  6. never too late. that's when i started track. assuming that actual track starts in high school and seeing as not too many people train before their freshman year of highschool track by sprinting... i'd say your pretty much starting in the same place as other freshmen doing track.

in highschool, your coaches will make you do more than one event. since your aiming for the 100m you'll probably be doing 100m and 200m, 400m if your decent at it and your coaches need someone to run it.

for conditioning: do 200m repeats; start by doing 4 (build up if necessary) that means do a 200m, walk 200m (slow so you get a rest) and run another 200m until you ran 4 of them

for speed drills: run no more than 50m- 60m at full speed. take the full rest and do them again. no more than 8. it's not a speed workout if you're running longer than 8 sec.

  7. You have plenty of time to prepare for track. since your a freshman you can practically chose any event and become good at it in years to come. You seem like a smaller, lankier person. If you like running distance join cross country now and you will be in great shape for track season. Also don't limit yourself to running; jumping, pole vaulting, and throwing are choices too. Good Luck and stay commited.
