Question:

Is It safe to use Engine Flush on a Maxima?

I have about 102k miles on a '97 maxima. I hear that i should use Mobil 1 Synthetic on it if i want it to last a while. However the previous owner used dino oil. so i am assuming that there is sludge in the engine. I hear that using engine flush will get all of the sludge out before swithcing to synthetic.

Another method that i hear is good is to use the synthetic and change it after 1k miles, then use synthetic again and change it after 2k miles, Then i can use use synthetic every 4-5k miles. this i hear will get all the old oil out and also the sludge.

If anybody here has any input, please jump in and steer me in the right direction. PLEASE HELP.

  1. My boyfriends says it's safe.

  2. Please listen do not change to a synthetic motor oil this late in the engine's life. Your VQ-30 motor won't like Mobil One and it will start leaking from the front covers front crank seal and rear main seal and oil pan. Just keep on using exactly what the previous owner used. And change every 3 to 4 thousand miles.  I use Mobil one in my 2006 GTO it came factory filled with extended life Mobil One 5wt / 40wt. Don't listen, I reseal lots of Maxima timing covers and it is not cheep. And using engine flushing makes it easier for oil leaks to start. Next Maxima you can change to synthetic at 3,000 miles while it is in factory warranty that way if any leaks happen they will be fixed free. Rear part of the front timing cover reseal job could easily cost over 1,000 dollars and add oil pan valve covers front and rear seals add another 1.500. so it is up to you.
