No, it's a free and independent country that was formerly a British colony.  It was Spanish before Britain took it.  It gained full independence in 1962.  Jamaica has an interesting history.  Escaped slaves, known as the "Maroons", fled to the Blue Mountains in the middle of the Island.  They were never recaptured and have some autonomy that is similar to the Native Americans in the U.S.
