Is Jason Arnott the center Toronto Maple Leafs’ are looking for in the NHL free agency? –NHL Update
Jason Arnott, the Canadian ice hockey veteran, might be the person Toronto Maple Leafs of the Northeast Division of the National Hockey League (NHL) might be looking for in the free agency.
Toronto, Ontario, based Maple Leafs team is looking for a centre that can join and play forward with David Steckel, James Van Riemsdyk and Jay McClement.
There are still few players left to be signed in the free agency, a very big name among those unsigned players is Shane Doan. Doan’s inclusion in the Toronto Maple Leafs roster looks a little difficult as he has spent more than 15 years with Phoenix Coyotes
and would like to stay or sign with a team in that Western region.
So Jason Arnott should easily be called the best available option for Toronto Maple Leafs at the moment. At 6-foot-5 and 220 lbs, Jason Arnott is the man if Maple Leafs are looking for size, experience and skill. The centre player has got much of the experience
as he has already played 19 seasons in the NHL since 1993. Even at the age of 37 he has a lot to offer and his numbers are increasing with time.
The Toronto Star reported that Jason Arnott is pretty much the same presence and the person, President and the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leaf’s Brian Burke is looking for.
Arnott is also someone who can not only score goals but contribute to the defence of the team as well. He can play the role of someone who can give a lot to his team.
When compared with Toronto Maple Leafs’ last year signing, Tim Connolly, who has gone to score 50+ points only twice in his career when he scored 55 points in 2005-2006 season and 65 points in 2009-2010 playing for Buffalo Sabres. He has scored 131 goals,
given 300 assists and earning total number of 431 points.
Whereas on the other hand, Arnott has 50+ points in 11 different seasons, has 400 goals, 504 assists and total number of 904 points in 1172 games played. His stats surely make him much more valuable than Connolly.
He was signed by St. Louis Blues last year for just $2.5 million with potential bonus of $350,000 last year.
