  1. Jason Kidd can't shoot. His jump shot is really bad, thats why he is always passing the ball.

  2. I love Kidd, one of may favorite of all time.  He is there for his leadership and understanding of the game.  He is just playing his role on the team and he is obviously the most unselfish player on the team, probably even in the league.  HE can score if he wants to but he would rather make his team mates happy and set them up to score.  Thats the sign of a true Point Guard and a great team player.

  3. Because he is a lot older and now slower than most of the other players out there. And there are two other point guards on the bench that are both better than he is. Kidd is still good, but its not that he is unselfish as much as he is not a offensive threat. He can not shoot outside shots, and does not have much of a step anymore to get around player for layup. Those put together make it hard to score in international play. Or as it seemed at the end of last season, out West.

  4. i agree 100%

  5. Rondo is better, he can't shoot.

  6. no hes very selfish. not scoring doesnt mean hes unselfish. hes selfish in assisting. Any players can be selfish in anything they do. like kidd hes so selfish when it comes to passing. and ben wallace is so selfish when it comes to blocking... lebron james is selfish when it comes to scoring... manu ginobli is selfish when it comes to flopping.... lol. well anyways see what  i mean?

  7. he doesnt fit into their style that much.  hes there in the beginning to keep things under control and when they want to start running, then they would be better off with cp3.

the usa team is all about getting out in the open court, where they can showcase their athleticism and use it to get easy points and put teams under pressure.

  8. after 96 yes he is the most unselfish.

you can look and see he doesn't want to score he rather passw the ball and get the assist or a steal or rebound before he even thinks about shooting. look up the stats...how many PG have a better rebounds and stealing

  9. He's certainly unselfish.  I wouldn't call him the most unselfish player I've ever seen, but he's plenty unselfish.

I actually thought that Kidd was trying to see if he could go thru the entire Olympics without taking a shot.  He was finally forced to (against Spain, i think) when he received a pass on a fast break and laid the ball in for his first basket and his first FG attempt.

As far as why he doesn't play more, Kidd has already won a gold medal (in 2000), so his main purpose there is to provide some leadership on the court and from the bench.  He doesn't care about playing 30 min a game anymore in these games, he just wants to be there and to be a steadying influence on the younger guys, and calm things down when the younger guys get too excited.

Kidd has never been a good shooter.  That's really the only weakness in his game.

Of the players in NBA history who played at least 800 games (about 10 seasons worth), Kidd ranks 7th from the bottom in career FG percentage:

Lowest FG percentage, NBA, 800+ games played:

    1) Joe Graboski  1949-62   -   35.2%

    2)  Bob Cousy 1951-63   -   37.5%

    3) Guy Rodgers 1959-70    -    37.8%

    4) Dolph Schayes 1950-64  -    38.0%

    5) Lindsey Hunter 1994-present   -   38.9%

    6) Vernon Maxwell 1989-2001  -    39.8%

    7) JASON KIDD 1995-present   -   40.1%

    8) Derek Fisher 1997-present   -   40.2%

    9) Brian Shaw 1989-2003   -   40.3%

    10) Larry Foust 1951-62   -    40.5%

    11) Nick Van Exel 1994-2006   -   40.5%

    12) Damon Stoudamire 1996-present   -   40.6%

    13) Darrell Armstrong 1995-present   -   40.9%

    14) Mookie Blaylock 1990-2002    -    40.9%

    15) Ray Scott 1962-72      -     40.9%

    16) Jerry Stackhouse 1996-present  -   41.0%

    17) Chris Dudley 1988-2003   -    41.2%

    18) John Starks 1989-2002   -   41.2%

    19) Antoine Walker 1997-present -    41.4%

    20) Richie Guerin 1957-70    41.6%

The top 4 players (or should I say the bottom 4 players) were all retired by 1970.  So in terms of players over the last 35+ years, Kidd ranks 2nd from the bottom in FG percentage (again, this only includes players who played in at least 800 games).

But I've very glad that Kidd is there, and that he was willing to make the 3 year commitment at this point in his career.  He didn't have to do that, but we should all be very glad that he did.  It's great to have a guy like that over there, who's been through the process of winning a gold medal.

But yeah, Kidd is a very unselfish player who only wants to win.

btw, if we expand the "lowest FG%" list to the bottom 40, we see other guys such as Eric Snow (24th), Robert Horry (27th),  Latrell Sprewell (28th), Doug Christie (29th), Allen Iverson (31st), Tim Hardaway (36th), Dan Majerle (37th) and Bryon Russell (38th) .

Hall of Famers in the "bottom 40" (in addition to Cousy, Rodgers and Schayes) include Nate Thurmond (23rd) , Elgin Baylor (35th), and Dave Debusschere (40th).

  10. i say hes one of them

but ill go with john stockton, if you ever saw him play

    he was truly unselfish

  11. I could agree to that, he knows his role, maybe he like passing better than shooting,,

  12. CHRIS PAUL.. all he does is pass to his teammates.. sometimes even if he has a shot.. but when he does shoot it he NEVER misses. best point guard around

  13. Lets not forget, Kobe!

  14. No, that would be Magic Johnson or John Stockton.  Jason Kidd is good, but come on...he's not even in the same league as those two.

  15. kidd's role in the olympics is just to be the elder statesman. he doesn't have to score, and the way team U.S.A. is playing they barley need him on the court. if i was mark cuban i'd be stoked!

he is also... career wise... a low low percentage shooter. so with all the weapons he has he doesn't need to score.
