  1. Nope,

    Java is a programming language created by Sun Microsystems in the mid 1990's.  With Java, you can write a program which will run on just about any computer, regardless of operating system.

    HotJava was a Java-based web browser created by Sun.  It was created to show that a Java application can indeed run as stated.  It was never intended to be a competitor to MSoft or (at the time) Netscape, but was used by some, and perhaps still is.

    JavaScript is a scripting language that can be embedded within html code, adding functionality.  There's no relationship between Java and Javascript other than the name.
