  1. Beginners really don't need to spend 3000$ on a schilke horn. Just stick with any of those famous brands : Bach (except for the TR-700), Yamaha, Jupiter (avoid the 300 serie), Besson (except for the cheap indian made 1000 serie), King, Conn, Olds (older, not in production anymore), Try to stay away from unknown asian makes.(Stay away from things that say :"German Enginered", most of these horn are cheap indian or chinese made instruments. If you're on ebay, avoid that looks like that : "trumpet year model 2008, teacher approved". If your on a budget, i'll stick on a  better quality used horn, and bring it to your repair shop to have it adjusted. Have a look at www.trumpetreview.com. Don't expect to pay less than 400$ for an "ok" quality brand new student horn.

  2. Remember how much you pay for is what you get. I think it would be a good back up horn, good for marching band and practicing but if you're serious about playing, then try to save up for a good brand name.

  3. Can't speak for the other three brands,

but Jean Baptiste is a pretty good trumpet band. Holds up especially well to the typical wear and tear of high school band members as such.
