  1. I don't agree with the first 3 answerers.

3 spinners played in the recent series between NZ & England, Vettori (the experienced campaigner with loads of wickets behind him). Panesar (the spin star of England, who has took the wickets of the likes of Tendulkar and Gilchrist) and lastly Jeetan Patel the understudy of Vettori.

Well in that series Patel outbowled Vettori and Panesar in the 2 matches he played. Patel took more wickets than Vettori in the series (Patel played 1 less game than Vettori). Patel also looked a lot more dangerous on a spinning pitch than Monty Panesar.

I don't agree with your comment about him being a spinner who will rip apart good batting line-ups, BUT he is a quality spinner who can geniunely turn the ball, and trouble the batsmen on the front & back foot. He might not get the amount of turn that Murali and Warney got, BUT sometimes a little amount of turn is a better than a huge amount of turn. Patel has always got the advantage of being an off-spinner so he is turning the ball back into the right hander (making him play at the ball) so Patel has a lot of advantages in his locker.

In recent times NZ have been known as a team who favours playing 3 seamers 1 spinner and 1 all-rounder. BUT i think things have to change for them, Patel is too good to leave out of the side, and if Patel and Vettori played then not only would they have 2 bowlers who can tie the batsmen down, BUT they have 2 different kind of bowlers, 1 turns the ball from off to leg and one turns the ball from leg to off, so as a batsmen having 2 bowlers like that can be very tricky.

Patel also has the advantage of being a good fielder and a decent late order batsmen.

To sum up, Patel at the moment is too good to be left out of the NZ side. So if i was the NZ selectors i would be seriously be thinking of playing 2 spinners and 3 seamers (Oram included). (Of course if it's a seamer friendly pitch then the choice of Vettori vs Patel will have to be made, and of course the captain Vettori will be chosen)

  2. ill have to agree with kookee on this one. being a new zealander i have seen alot of patel bowling and he is quite highly rated here in nz which is a tough place to be a spinner.

hes has been attacked a few times but most of the time he has been a very handy option and when he gets a chance on turning pitches he can very dangerous.

he is also very adept at bowling yorkers and can be a good death bowler. which is rare for a spinner

but like all spinners he can be attacked by batsman on the rampage. and hes not to old, most spinners dont reach their prime till about 30+

the 1st couple of answers need to watch more cricket

  3. he is c**p

there are no decent spinners now

    none since shane warne

murali doesnt count cos he chucks

  4. He is OK. And KooKee has a lot to say.

  5. He is right arm rubbish, slow cannon fodder,  i agree with mark the game is crying out for a new amazing spin bowler, vettori is decent but thats because he is a thinking cricketer, and knows how to flaunt his full array of skills

  6. he is just another average bowler
