I think he should be. He was the premier first basemen of his era.

  1. i don't know about first ballot, but he surely will be a Hall Of Famer.

  2. If he was healthier towards the end of career, definitely. However, that might keep him from being a first-balloter. He will definitely make it in. 449 HR, .408 OBP, .540 SLG, .297 AVG, with over 2000 hits and 1500 RBI to go along with 4 all-star selections, 3 silver slugger awards, a gold glove and an MVP award are credentials to get you into the Hall, but I don't know if those are good enough to make it on the first ballot. If he does make it the first time around, I think it will be barely.

  3. As an Astros Fan I don't think he will get in first ballot.

He never won a World Series, He was a premier player for so many years.

He will go into the Hall of Fame eventually.

    Jack

  4. i don't think he'll be in on the first ballot, as astros fan said he failed to win a championship and while he put up some very consistent and very strong power numbers over the course of years his career was cut short by injuries, and longevity is a factor that voters take into consideration

i think he will get in over time, but not on the first try

  5. He finished with about 450 home runs, and played in a big city but a "small market." He never really got the attention he deserved.  And when the Astros finally did get into the World Series, he was hurt and not much of a factor, so he never really got the chance to show what he could do on the biggest stage.

He's eligible in 2011, and the next-most-"obvious" first-time-eligible player that year is Rafael Palmeiro, who won't get in because he got gotchaed on steroids.  Juan Gonzalez (assuming he doesn't make a successful comeback, he's already tried once and failed) is the next-closest, but he's also a big steroid suspect.  Others eligible that year are Kevin Brown, John Franco, Marquis Grissom, Al Leiter, Tino Martinez, John Olerud and Larry Walker, and I don't think any of them get in -- maybe Franco eventually because he is, for the moment, the all-time leader in saves by a lefthander.  But no other first-timers challenge Bagwell, and that's a big help to him.

I think it's a case of when he gets in, not if.  But he doesn't have that "obvious choice" aura.  If there's still some long-denied guys on the ballot in 2011, he might have to wait a year.

  6. Not First Ballot

    but Maybe HOF
