Daly wasn't even supposed to be playing, stepping in at the last minute, having driven to the course the night before on a hunch there'd be a place up for grabs - and was duly rewarded when Nick Price withdrew, his wife having gone into labour. The self-taught country boy didn't even have time for a practice round before playing.
