Question:

Is John Lennon's assassin getting an unfair deal?

I have no love for Mark Chapman but I think if he had kiiled anyone other than John Lennon he would have paid for his crime after 28 years. I am not saying I wish him to be free but isn't justice supposed to be blind from the victims side as well? Yoko Ono , miss love to the world and forgive everyone is leading the fight to keep him behind bars because she cannot forgive him. But if it was anyone else she would probably be screaming to 'give peace a chance' and another shot at redeeming himself. Do you think the parole board should not be swayed by the thousands of signatures petitioning he not be freed? No one wanted him dead and no one wants him freed including myself but

is it fair that he be punished beyond the norm because he took the life of someone that many people felt was an icon? Personal feeling aside, shouldn't he be treated like anyone else ?

  1. Keep the SOB locked up.  He deserves every bit of it.  Rot in Prison Mark Chapman.

  2. Why should he be released after 28 years. He took a mans life.He should not have a life of his own,and I hope he has a boyfriend in prison with an insatiable appetite for his BooBooKitty.

  3. The unfair deal part is that he is still alive, rather than being taken out back and shot!

  4. I don't want to hear him talk brag about his crime!

He's still a threat to society. That's why people are petitioning that he remain in prison. Shouldn't we put him in the sanitarium or solitary? That way everyone would leave him alone, right?

How is he being punished beyond the norm? John Lennon will never have his life back but Chapman deserves to have his live back because it's been 28 years? I don't get it! Oh, so give him back his life so he can be like OJ? Where would he receive more hatred within or outside those prison walls? How long would he survive on the outside before someone executes him?

  5. Yeah, he (Lennon) was just a famous person killed for attention. It's not as if he was anyone's spouse, parent, sibling, child, or friend.  What the frick does he (Chapman) have to offer society if he is set free???

While we're letting people out, let's free Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan.  I certainly wouldn't want to cheat them out of contributions to my society... any of them would leave you comfortable as a neighbor living next door to  you, would you really be okay with it???

  6. you are right, he should be treated like everyone else, or more specifically in this case, everyone else should be treated like him.

  7. First degree murder normally leads to a life without parole or death sentence. I can see no reason why he should be released after 28 years.

  8. yes and no, because of the notoriety of the crime, public out cry speaks louder than Justice served.

  9. Chapman's motive, in his own words, was to get attention. How do we know that that the next time he's feeling neglected, he won't do it again? If you incarcerate say, someone who killed another in a robbery, we can at least theoretically turn them loose one one if they learn a job skill so they won't have to commit robbery.

Not saying I would mind you, but how do you teach someone to not have to be the center of attention, or to handle it in a non violent way?
