No and he doesn't claim to be. He just wants to show that he knows what its like to fight a war! unlike other presidential nominees.....He has first hand experience on what it is like to be a troop fighting for your country.

In his mind, he's the only vet that matters. After he married Cindy for her money and she bought him a seat in the Senate, he immediately passed a bill sealing the military records of Vietnam vets and MIAs. When families of MIAs complained that they couldn't access the military records of their loved ones to look for clues on what might have happened to them, McCain not only blocked them and has continued for the past 20 years, but he had the callousness to accuse the families of being selfish!! McCain has worked hard to keep his military records sealed.
