Is Jorge Posada a Hall of Famer? Experts pose questions
As soon as veteran catcher Jorge Posada took retirement from his professional baseball career on late Wednesday night, several experts started another debate on television as to whether Posada’s talents come under the Hall of Fame category or not.
Though he was a great performer, but last season’s performance left him in a tiny hole where several experts pointed fingers at his stats which were certainly bad for an All Star player who has also won four World Series titles and five Silver Slugger awards.
Posada was miserably short from his 2010’s performance where he achieved a .248 hitting average. This is also one of the facts of his retirement as he posted just .235 hitting average along with 14 homers, 44 RBIs and .315 OBP.
But many experts also believe that Posada does posses Hall of Fame calibre for his life-long commitment with game and with the New York Yankees. He started his career with the Yankees and also called it a day here.
Yankees' general manager and a great admirer of Posada’s game, Brian Cashman however, believes that his former player will be enlisted in Major League Baseball Hall of Fame category someday or another.
It is Cashman's belief that Posada does have the stats and great history of tremendous performances to possibly make it to the Hall of Fame. Although he might not have had a great season last year, his overall career has been excellent. He has the respect and admiration of both the fans and management alike. It is important to note that the Yankees have had a very long successful history in baseball. The club has produced some of the greatest players to have ever stepped on to the field. Posada's career with Yankees has been nothing short of brilliant.
Comparing some of the other Yankees' catchers with Posada’s talents, no one comes to that level where he currently stands. Having played at the highest level, achieving 1,664 hits, 900 runs scored, an on-base percentage of .374 and slugging percentage of .474, somewhat does make sense that he will be a future Hall of Famer.
