Question:

Is Jose Reyes the most conceited player you have ever seen?

if you watch him play he just plays with this arrogance thinking he is the greatest player on the face of the Earth to ever play the game. and last night was just out of control when he hit that three run homer...that little jumping around thing he always does and those stupid handshakes that is so rude to the pitcher and to the other team. I already don't like the mets but that just makes me hate them even more.

I am NOT saying Jose Reyes isn't a good ball player....hes one of the top I can't deny that (even though I would like to; I do think he is somewhat overrated though) but i mean you can be good and not be so egotistical. right?

Like Chase Utley....amazing and modest - why he is my favorite player.

  1. Dude...when Reyes celebrates after hitting a game winning homer, everyone says he's conceited.  If he shows any sign of anger or frustration, he's immature.  If he is "modest" like you say, then everyone thinks he doesn't care about the game.  What does this guy have to do to get a break from you guys?  Instead of being the most conceited player, he's the most wrongly criticized player in baseball.  No matter what he does, the media loves to pick on this kid.  All I see is a guy who cares about the game and likes to have fun while he plays it.  Respect is due.  That is something Philly sports fans know nothing about.

  2. Well, I think you are wrong on one count and that is the fact that Jose Reyes is nowhere near the top players in baseball.  Look at his numbers from last year and they are strikingly similar to Shane Victorino's.  He has talent and that's it; people tell him he's great so he becomes conceited.  The media makes him seem like he's great because he plays for a team in New York, which has a huge media market.  The more the media acts like these players are somehow gods, the more money the media rakes in.  I've seen Reyes make average plays, the type any shortstop in the Majors can make, and the ESPN announcers act like its the play of the century (same can be said for FOX announcers).

Up until just recently, many people didn't even realize just how good Chase Utley truly is, why? because Philadelphia's market is smaller than New York's.

  3. ya definetly its prolly cause he can bearly hit a homer and he is from the domican and is an animal(i dont hate all domincan player i like manny and big papi)

  4. You have to be a little arrogant to play mlb especially if you want to be the best.

  5. yah i agree man, players have gotten so arrogant, but the media and fans eat it up, and allow it to keep happening.  if i had it my way, there would be no celebration until you got into the dugout.  I can not stant when a player hits a home run and sits there and watches it (bonds, manny, papi, vlad, etc.) if that happened in the old days, you would be getting a fastball to the noggin your next at bat.  I remember reading somewhere that one year someone hit a homer off bob gibson and it eliminated the cards from the playoff race, and gibson hit him in the neck the very next time he pitched to him - in the 2nd game of spring training the following year!!!.  Its a bad part of the game that is getting ridiculous and way out of hand and needs to be confronted.  The other day a san diego pitcher(Baek) hit a homer against the cardinals, his first major league hit, and he practically walked around the bases celebrating the whole way.(i think it took him 35 seconds to round the bases, no joke)  Too bad we had a rookie on the mound who was making his first major league start, b/c if it were anyone else they would've and should've thrown at him to get a point across

  6. Ok I'm a Phils fan so I know where you're coming from BUT I think the reason Jose acted that way last night was because of what the Hawaiian did the previous night standing on top of the plate for a little bit.Plus it was a huge hit for the Mets and maybe he felt the bullpen with Wagner out there would be able to close the deal and tie the lead for the division.

To answer your question he isnt even the most conceited player in Mets history-See Rickey Henderson.

  7. No way, that has to go to Mr. Reginald Martinez Jackson...another fine product of the Bronx, or Uranus.

  8. You probably hate him more because you are a Phillies fan & I hate no players,  even the Red Sox, rivals of my team the Yankees, but I may dislike a few players from other teams

  9. Cali rarely shows Mets games so i don't really get to see his handshakes or little celebrations but he has been more babyish than normal... i dunno maybe he was always a bit babyish.. who knows

    great player though!!

  10. No that would be Rickey Henderson.

  11. A Phillie fan hates Reyes.  Who would have thought?
