Is Juan Manuel Marquez underrated in Mexico compared to Erik Morales and Barrera?

Yes, I think so, but I believe it's due to the wars that Morales and Barrera have produced not only during their career, but against each other as well. I think Marquez's first fight with Pacquiao was the start of his status slowly rising.

Based on skills, he may be. But judging by CHARACTER, he has none! The reason why Mexicans loved Morales and Barrera is for their Character that matches their Fighting! They were warriors on the ring and noble men outside. These are warrior like traits embodied by these Mexican fighters throughout their careers. While JMM obviously has talent, but a character microscopically seen. Lack of character is the difference.

dude dont worry about jmm.. he may be underrated in mexico, but to all the asians, which i am, he is the best mexican fighter out of the three of them... i mean, pacman knocked out morales and barrera, but he did not do that to jmm... jmm got a lot of heart to withstand that kind of power... props to jmm...

He was in the past, due the the wars waged by Barrera and Morales, and their dominance for so long over others.  But Juan Manuel Marquez has made a name for himself and has emerged from their shadows to be very much respected in his own right.  It's also becoming more common knowledge that both Barrera and Morales had declined to fight JMM during their stays at the top -- until Barrera finally gave him a shot last year, which is when he lost his title to "Dinamita."  I'm not sure it would be very much debated that Juan Manuel Marquez's boxing skill is better than that of either Barrera or Morales.
