Graeme Hick is almost like Mark Ramprakash. Fabulous at the county level against slightly poorer bowlers. But once he was exposed to international level bowling, he totally fell apart. KP I think is somewhat the opposite. I don't think he was a legend at county level, but he merited selection, and once he got it, he has never really let go of it! He has had some bad patches, but probably the best player on the English team, even if he is not English.

Except that Hick was from Zimbabwe...

Hick was touted along with Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, as the next big star of international cricket. Hick had all the shots in the book, but sometimes struggled against world class pace bowling. Hick is in that special group of people who just cant handle international cricket (Ramps and maybe Shah too) Hick has the talent, but he didnt have the mind-set for international cricket. Shane Warne said that Hick was one of the finest players he has ever faced! and thats one h**l of a compliment.

Pietersen isnt as standard as Hick, but like everyone has said Pietersen can cope with pressure unlike Hick. Not many people can make 100's when the whole country is depending on you (2005 Ashes) and i actually believe Pietersen's best is yet to come. KP can dominate world cricket for another 5 years, he has all the shots and some new one's too.

Overall although similar in talent, Pietersen's temperament puts him ahead of Hick

Only Pietersen is South African born and bred; Graeme Hick is from Zimbabwe.

As for who is best: I have seen both in their prime. Hick was a wonderful player, nobody could touch him for talent. However, he suffered badly when under pressure, whereas Pietersen thrives on it. The more pressurised the situation, the better Pietersen becomes. Hick was also a more classical player than Pietersen, playing with far more orthodoxy. Pietersen is more innovative.

So I will say that Pietersen is the better of the two.

KP: Runs per test match - 90.47; Runs per Innings - 50.52; Percent of runs scored in the series played - 8.67.

GH: Runs per test match - 52.05; Runs per Innings - 31.32; Percent of runs scored in the series played - 4.40.

GH's best performance came against his old country, Zimbabwe. In the 2000 Eng v Zim series (a low scoring series), Graeme Hick scored 136 runs in 2 matches, 3 innings.

KP's best performance came against SRL. In the 2006 Eng v SRL series, KP scored 360 runs in 3 matches, 5 innings.

GH is better than 81% of all test match batsmen. KP is better than 98% of all test match batsmen.

GH couldn't cut it at international level KP can.Hick was appalling at dealing with fast bowling,particularly bouncers.KP is more inspirational

and less bogged down in mindset.

England were the only to object to Zimbabwe joining the international fold in cricket,the objection was raised during the world cup some years ago.Interestingly England were drawn to play Zimbabwe (who had qualified as a minnow)Hick,who had turned his back on Zimbabwe to play for England came to the crease,to face his old school friend,Eddo Brandes (a chicken farmer) Eddo bowled his mate and rival Hick middle stump first ball and Zimbabwe defeated England.Hick was humiliated along with arrogant England.Hick was born in old Rhodesia and educated in that country and England.KP is our 4th SA captain,KP/Lambie/Robin Smith and of course,long sanks,now living in Aus

Kp and Graham Hick are two different people. KP was chose because the south africans did not want anymore white people in there team as there was not enough black people in the team. South africa should be jealous that we have such a good captain. KP is one of the best players in the world, way better than Graham Hick at his best.

The Oracle and David G are both right. Hicks had enormous potential and showed this in county cricket. Unlike KP who has excelled in the pressure of International cricket and who has joined that select band of scoring a century in his debut match (tests) as captain.
