Mirka. I mentioned he destroyed mosques, turned them to museums as Vladimir Lenin did under the Communist regime. He banned pilgrim to mecca which is a Koran commandment for the able. He banned Islamic education either in Schools or at mosques. He should have been ex-communicated if Islam has thing like that in our times.

Kemal Ata-Turk ranks as Turkey's George Washington. Turkey today is a secular state with few of the problems seen in Iraq, Pakistan and Iran. In a large part this is due to Kemal's ction and vision.

In the matter of religion Kemal Ata-Turk abolished Islam as the state religion and introduced many reforms based on Europe's government systems. Certainly anyone that wanted a religious state with the Koran as the religion, law and culture would have found reason to badmouth him.

It depends on what you consider good for Muslims. If you share the opinion of the inhabitants of Turkey including that of all their governments from Ataturk on, then no - he was not an evil man as far as Muslims are concerned.
