Is Kubuntu Linux the best version of Linux to use?

A friend gave me a copy on a DVD. I tried it out from the CD and it seems OK. I am debating on whether or not to install it.

any ubuntu based distro is best I use linux mint think of it as ubuntu on steroids

There really is no "best" distro of linux. If you want to try out linux easily without risk, try using Wubi to install linux directly from windows.
