  1. A recent test carried out by Consumer NZ in New Zealand shows that Sony and Panasonic are the most reliable brands in terms of LCD and Plasma screens respectively. Philips scored the worst in reliability with LG being average. Another good brand to go for would be Samsung, with it scoring quite pleasing results.

From personal experience, Sony TVs tend to be a lot more expensive when it comes to LCDs compared to other brands, even when it doesn't offer as much as other TV manufacturers. If you want to keep your expenses down, try going for a Samsung LCD TV (Panasonic tend to be more Plasma Screens).

Remember, at the end of the day, you will be the one that has to live with the TV, so remember, it's personal preference, and choose carefully. Good luck!

  2. Unfortunately the Consumer Reports issue on TV did not include LG in their list for reliability comparison.  However, there was hardly any difference in reliability between 7 brands listed (Panasonic, Sony, Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba, JVC, Philips) and only Hitachi and Dell scored worse.  I would bet that LG is in the same group as the first 7.  All new flat panel TV (plasma and LCD) are about equivalent in lifetime.  I forgot the number of hours of operation, but it comes out several years.
