Question:

Is Labor Day weekend a busy time to fly?

I will be flying on the Saturday of labor day weekend. I once saw a web site that listed the the busiest and slowest times of the year for flying, but I can't find it anymore.

Is this a busy time of year to fly? I would like to know if I should arrive even earlier than the recommended time for the security and check in.

Thanks!

  1. Hi "me,"

Usually any holiday weekend is a busy travel time for everyone in the aviation industry -- pilots, security screeners, air traffic controllers, passengers, airlines, etc. -- so yes, it would be advisable to give yourself about 20-30 minutes of extra "cushion" time that can help you avoid check-in and security delays. Security lines are actually not as long as they used to be, however, as people are becoming used to TSA (the security agency at all U.S. airports) regulations. To streamline your security checking process, I would like to suggest that you read some parts of the TSA's guidelines for air travel, as found on their website, here: http://www.tsa.dhs.gov/travelers/airtrav...

    Happy flying!
