  1. You completely dismiss our huge old brain? Why is that?

Uh, LOTS of critter communicate; most, in fact.

Everything was fine then? And you know this HOW?

Human communication is, on the whole, a GOOD thing. Here you are, railing against it (for no real reason that you give), on the Internet, communicating with people you are physically far from, typing onto a gadget that couldn't exist without human communication.

And the primary purpose of which is human communication via language.

We haven't been destroyed, nor is our destruction imminent. (People have been saying this for many centuries now; still here!)

Now go pick up a really good book, or pop a DVD of your favorite movie or TV show into the gadget, and get caught up in some human communication at it's best.

    ;-)

  2. i think your right but the world is to advance for its self so thats whats killing us

  3. Interesting...I definitely think words can destroy relationships...or even a lack of words can be a destructive thing. But I've been told that words are really just meaningless. It's what they stand for and mean that's the source of their power. For example, my friend said a kiss is a symbol.

  4. Language is like a chain that connects us. If we disagree then the chain is broken but as diplomats know there are ways to repair that chain.  We have three factors going on right now, a large growing population, advancing information technology system, and fast transportation.  People are getting to know each other like never before and starting to act as one people.  There will have be a lot of people to change their belief systems to make it work but people are adaptable.

  5. Many animals communicate, and some even do so linguistically (if not exactly verbally).

I would agree that our ability to deceive and confuse ourselves and others is vastly enhanced by the radical imprecision of language and the odd psychology of our species.

I am not sure what 'destruction' you are referring to?  Are you predicting the extinction of our species due to our particular brand of linguistic communication?  If so, I can only say that I agree that language will almost certainly be involved, but it is very unlikely that it will be the primary cause.

We live by geological consent.  If we are to become extinct, it is much more likely to occur as a result of environmental change (perhaps catastrophic) for which we are unprepared (and whether or not we play any part in causing it).  At least that's what the history of species on our planet overwhelmingly attests.

  6. No, because animals have communication among them, think about dolphins and wheals and you don't see them acting like us. The things that will destroy us are dishonesty, intolerance, the bad communication, the little appreciation we have for the human live and rights, looking for the easiest way we to become rich no mattering what we do in the process, the way we take advantage in the others disgrace and on and on and on... We know how to talk, but our sense of communication is very low, if we learn how to have as much communication sense as a bunch of humming birds have may be this world would it be better.

  7. If anything, communication, and the culture that arose from the further complication of this communication is what made us more viable and able to come together to overpower and survive against other creatures. So in fact, it is our salvation.

When things get complicated it just means that we've come far enough to no longer worry about food and shelter and battle it out amongst ourselves based on philosophy (which we communicate through language).

I see where you're going with the whole "we know too much and now look what we're doing" but it's made us more good than harm, i would say.
