Question:

Is Lasik Surger Painful?

I was thinking about getting this done, but, it's not like I am a wuss or something, but I got a tattoo removed by the same people who want to do Lasik on me. Pop, Pop, Pop, dangit, ouch ouch ouch. I told the lady, "why don't you just come around here and kick me in the shin or something to take my mind off this". I couldn't believe how painful that was, and now they are going to put that laser in my eye? So, is Lasik as painful as I am imagining it to be?

  1. As far as I know, there is virtually no pain involved.

My first answer was going to be, "Are you crazy?!  Laser beams in your eyes?!  You know how pesky it is to get a hair in your eye?!  And you want to jam a laser beam in there?!"

I am sure that some type of anesthesia is involved while none was involved in the tattoo removal.

And on the third hand, I will gladly put up with glasses for the rest of my life.  Already done it for forty years; another forty is fine with me.  I don't want to hear them say during the surgery, "Opps."

  2. My father had it done.  It was not so painless, and there were complications afterward.  His vision deteriorated after the surgery.

  3. 8 Track, please assure me that you didn't get that "NOLTE- 4-EVER" tattoo removed....It would break my heart.

From what I've heard, the only thing that's painful about LASIK is the bill. I, for one, refuse to have it done, cuz I looks mighty s**y in mah spectacles.

  4. To answer your question -- no it does not hurt.  After everything is done, you may have a gritty feeling in your eyes but that will soon disappear.  You will notice  the difference right away and it is quite amazing.  For about a month, you will notice a halo around lights.  That should also disappear after a while.  I wouldn't drive at night until this goes away.

I had mine done about four years ago.  Here was my situation.  My left eye was far sighted and my right eye was near sighted (my right eye was my dominant eye).  When I had the surgery done, the right became my far sighted eye and the left became my near sighted eye.  I have never been able to get used to that.  Also, I still need to wear reading glasses and, I pretty much can't see close up without them.

It all depends on the person and the condition of your eyes before the surgery.  But I would definitely look around and do some research.

I am still amazed at how far away I can see but I wish I could see as good close up.

    Good luck!

  5. Not at all. it is great after the surgery. No spect needed at all.

  6. I didn't know that you could get Lasik and tattoo removal from the same people. I realize they are both laser surgeries, but I thought you had to go to different specialists for each.

  7. Lasik does not hurt.  I AM a big wuss, and I came through it just fine.

I think you need to go to a doctor who specializes in Lasik, not the tattoo removal place.  You're talking about your eyes, for pete's sake.

Go around to a couple of different Lasik practitioners, and see who you're more comfortable with.

It's the best investment I ever made!

  8. I had it done.  It was painless.

It worked great for me, and I was really near sighted and had an astigmatism.  I must add, however, that I had it done about 5 years ago, and my nearsightedness is creeping back a bit.  I still am free of the main use of contacts, and function just about  as well.  I need reading glasses, which I have needed since I got the surgery done and is just bc I am getting toward that age...

However, now I also need glasses for distance correction when I am driving either at night, or when I am driving somewhere unfamiliar, in order to read the street signs.

But painful, no.  Don't worry.  You feel nothing.

  9. you might want to get a second or even a third opinion before having the surgery done.   some of the people who have had it done are having problems now.

    just be careful.

  10. Lasik eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and Lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and Lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, Lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.

They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
