I'm an Asian gal who'll be backpacking solo to Paris in June, and I would like to stay in Le Village Hostel near Anvers Station( Line 2), but I'll be arriving to the hostel at around 9.30pm. Is it safe for me to walk from the station to the hostel itself? Is the street near the hostel safe? How long will I take to get to the city centre by Metro? Thanks for helping.

  1. I didn't stay at that hostel so I can't comment on their service, but I know that area well since I used to live in the 18ème myself. It's not dangerous. Just use the same common sense you would in any big city and you should be just fine. As for getting to the city center, it depends on what you have in mind. If you wanted to go to the Champs-Elysées for instance, that's a short ride on line 2 to Charles De Gaulle-Etoile. If you wanted to go to the Ile-de-la-Cité, you'd just take line 2 to 1 stop to Barbès-Rochechouart, and then line 4 southbound to Cité. Not a very time-consuming process- Paris is surprisingly compact.

  2. France is not safe.  Watch out for rioting "youth".
