Is Lee's Summit a good city to live in?

I have heard a bit about Lee's Summit because of their IB program but what is it really like for those living in poverty? I am looking for a new city for my son and I but don't want to take all our city's problems with us (gangs, crime, language barriers, drugs, unusable parks, etc)

  1. Lee's Summit is a wonderful community with great schools. You would find it to be a fine place to raise your son.  The high schools are large, but good.  There are many businesses around and I think you would find jobs easy to get.  There is little public transportation except for the bus that goes downtown for commuters.

  2. I love living in Lee's Summit.

As stated before, the schools are good. Large, but good...much better than other schools in the area. There's a little bit of everything here: a mall, a quaint downtown, a movie theater, tons of restaurants. The real estate is at a lull because of the economy, but there are plenty of apartments and duplexes to rent...Most of them are in good shape.

It is getting to be a big city, but the crime rate is so much lower than the surrounding cities.

Hope that helps! You can email me if you want to. :)

  3. It is a very nice area to live in, not many big city types of problems, but it is kind of a snotty area.

  4. It's a nice place to live, but stay away from the single men. They are some seriously bad players in that town. It must be a mineral deficiency in the water system. You might do better in a small town. Lee's Summit is getting too big for its britches and seem to think they're the next Johnson County, KS.

  5. I have lived in Greenwood my entire life which, if you don't know, is a small town right outside of Lee's Summit.  There is one elementary school here and it is apart of the LS school district (and is a great school, might I add).  All GW residents attend LS schools.  The LS school district was named number 7 on a national list of best school districts in small cities.  I am currently a senior in the LS school district and an IB diploma candidate.  This IB program had helped me tremendously. Through the program, I feel that I am getting an excellent education and feel fully prepared for college.  I have yet to meet somebody who is not happy with the schools in this district.

LS is the kind of suburb that provides plenty of opportunities for jobs. Also, the town has everything you need in close proximity and it is only a half hour drive to downtown KC.  There are some large neighborhoods being built close to the outskirts of town, but most of these homes are very pricey (300K +). However, downtown LS has a lot of smaller homes that are available for rent or are not too expensive. If I lived in LS, I would live downtown because it is beautiful and full of history.  There are plenty of nice places for low income families to live and your children will get the same opportunities as everybody else.  LS is really a great place to live, I do encourage you to check it out.  Also, don't be afraid to stop by Greenwood, for it too is a nice friendly place to live.
