Lou Montanez made his official MLB debut on August 5th, but participated in the make-up game from April 28th. Does that make his MLB debut April 28th, or does it not change considering that the continuation today is on August 25th?

  1. this is a good question, but his debut is the 28th, on his game log it will look like he was injured or sent down for 4 months

  2. August 5th is his MLB debut. He did not start the game so he is not a part of the original game.

  3. His debut remains August 5th but his stats will show him playing in the April 28th game.

The same thing happened to a couple of future Hall of Famers.

Greg Maddux made his debut on 9/3 in a game that was suspended from 9/2.  If you look at his baseball-reference page you'll see that his debut is Sept 3, 1986 but if you look at his game log you'll see a game from Sept 2 and nothing for Sept 3.

Same situations for Barry Bonds.  His debut was May 30, 1986 but on 8/11/1986 Bonds pinch hit in a game that was originally started on 4/20/1986.

Some others that "played" before they debuted include Oscar Gamble, Joe Lis, Mike Anderson, Kurt Bevacqua, Dave Parker, Jeff Reardon, Jim Tracy, Bud Anderson, Carmelo Castillo, Kevin Rhomberg, Barry Jones, Bill Moore, and Ramon Tatis.
