  1. I like Machida's style,  that's how I would fight if it were me.  Make your opponent impatient so he does something stupid.  He was making Tito look amatuerish and then Tito got mad and impatient so Tito rushed in and almost got knocked out with a knee to the stomach.  Brilliant strategy I think,  Machida's one of the best to watch.  He's not a brawler,  remember his dad is a karate master,  he style is more of a pure martial arts which is self defense but obviously applicable  to MMA.

  2. He's a smart fighter. He looks for openings and avoids getting hit. It that simple.

He fights similar to Anderson Silva. He starts slow and waits to see what his oponents strategy is and waits for a mistake or an opening or some repetitive movement and then attacks.

    Either way, its effective.

  3. Yes his style is boring. And yes he is very technical and his style is very effective, but COME ON we watch mma and sports in general to be entertained. The brazilian " dragon " is not entertaining to watch at all. I guess hes entertaining to you if you are a big technical fighter watcher guru or whatever.

  4. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz  Is it finally over?  Honestly, you can say I'm not a true fan all you want, but If he won a championship I can't see him ever headline a card on his own star power.  Just like Tim Sylvia when he was champ.  I'm just curious if his opponent would stop going forward if the fight would just stop and a picnic would break out.  It's supposed to be entertainment.  It's the exact reason the NBA is praying the Spurs and Pistons don't end up in the Finals.  In a word "yes", he's boring.

  5. yea i agree...the fight was so lame...and Tito should of gave it more being that this was his last fight...i'm glad he's out of the ufc

  6. Well, it was THAT FIGHT that was pretty boring. You just cannot predict what he will do next. What he does works, i mean he is undefeated.

  7. Calm and picked his shots, it doesn't always have to be Silva style. This the true art in martial arts, non aggressive thats why he is now 14-0. Stephan Bonner, Rich Franklin, Tito Ortiz are now part of his victories. If you remember this the same way people saw Royce when he faught taking 1/2hr to submit people early in the UFC.

  8. People who don't understand the intricacies of striking won't appreciate Machida's style. It's sort of like how people who don't know how to grapple think that groundfighting is boring. It's all relative to what you're looking for and what you know.

A surprising amount of people seem to be under the impression that Tito was pressing the action and Machida was constantly running away. That couldn't be further from the truth. Lyoto initiated just as much exchanges as Tito, and in some rounds, he did more.

But here's the thing; Machida likes to maintain distance. Though the disturbing amount of MMA fighters like to wade right into the pocket swinging, that's not Lyoto's style. He likes to maintain and control distance. He's both diligent and effective at doing just that. It's by doing this that The Dragon manages to avoid getting hit very much.

When Machida sees and opening, then and only then, will he allow the gap to close. He'll cover the distance, throw his shots, then get the heck out of dodge. He keeps his combinations short so that his opponent has very little time to retaliate before Lyoto's out of arms-reach once again.

His footwork is impeccable. He literally side-stepped Tito's shot. That is QUITE a feat.

On the other hand, I think that it wouldn't kill Machida to work harder for finishes. But what he's doing is definitely effective.

Long story short, if you can appreciate the technique, you may be entertained. If not, I'm sure that you can find plenty of backyard brawls on youtube that may be a bit more up your alley.

  9. I thought it was amazing. He was defensive, yet very aggressive when he saw an opening. He was frustrating Tito so bad. It's a very impressive style.

  10. as long as hes winning he could machida could care less if its boring... i wouldnt wanna get hit either.

  11. You people can say whatever you want about his style being "boring"-the fact of the matter is, he is an intelligent , undefetead fighter who knows how to take calculated risks-don't forget that he knocked out Rich Franklin and beat Bj Penn (and Stephan Bonnar, but he doesn't count).  that's what separates MMA from, say Pro Wrestling.  MMA is like a chess game, you have to think very carefully about your moves, and know exactly when to strike.  I personally think his style is unique and exciting to watch.  If this isn't your idea of excitement, I recommend watching TNA Impact or Kimbo Slice Videos on the internet.

  12. I think boring is relative.  I think his style is very effective, and he does attack it's just that he ends up making his opponents look rather stupid and slow, and as a result he wears them down. MMA shouldn't be about flash, it should also be about substance, and Machida brings that.

  13. nah. Its refreshing to see a different style of fighting in the UFC then boxing and leg kicks. Back in the day, UFC was all about different styles. Now all you have are a bunch of clones

  14. Nope, he is a counter puncher/kicker and thats a large part of what got him this far. Maybe he's not the most exciting fighter. I'd rather watch one of his fights than watch a couple guys rolling around on the ground.

Better to be a boring winner than an exciting loser anyday in my book.

  15. That Fight SUCKED! Tito wanted to brawl but Machida wanted no part. Its a "smart" fighting style but not fun to watch.

  16. machida didn't impress me at all. the only thing he showed me in the octagon was fear. Most of the fight he was running from Tito and playing cat and mouse. Thats not what MMA Is all About.

  17. Yesssssssssss, Its boring ! For all of you saying it's "INTELLIGENT"??? U guys can keep shellin out your $44.95 to watch him keep his distance and run . Yeah its effectice alright throw a couple than run ! Thats the kind of fight i want to see in every match ! Give me fighters like Wanderlei, Liddell, St Pierre, Huerta , guys that are looking to , whats it called again....??????????, OH Yeah FIGHT. Afterall, thats what they're payed to do isnt it ???????

  18. He won didn't he ?

  19. machida started in shotokan karate. if you watch him in the ufc and then watch some shotokan kumite, then you see where his moves come from. he's very smart. he hardly ever gets hit. and he's not running from the opponent, he's just keeping from getting hit. very smart. it may be boring for you mma guys, but he'll remain undefeated.

  20. machidas style isn't boring, machida is boring. chung le has a similar karate style and he is very exciting.

  21. He reminds me of a younger Bernard Hopkins - very patient and elusive.  He also does what fighters who are to be effective for a long time can do; take away what his opponent wants to do.

It just seemed surgical, landing shots to keep Ortiz honest, moving to avoid any takedowns, and eventually landing that knee to the body to almost end it.

  22. Lyoto sucks.  He is scared to mix it up for fear of being knocked out.  What he did last night should get him expelled from the UFC.  This is MMA not a marathon.  I would never pay to see him fight ever again.
