I only ask as I have recieved my AS level results this year and some will not be good enough for MEng, and although I am sure I can boost them up I just wondered if BEng is acceptable for employers if I have to take it.

  1. MEng is obviously better than a BEng but from an employers point of view im not sure. you should be able to do a BEng and then stay on for an extra year to do a MEng

  2. It is better for the following reasons:-

-MEng will mean a quicker route to become a chartered engineer (CEng) status

-If you want to do research/PhD, MEng is usually better.

-It is an advantage in the jobs market, to obviously have a better degree.

Generally though, at our firm for instance, there are actually more BEng graduates than MEng. It isn't a significant disadvantage, but it is important about chartered status - I am a bit rusty on this but I think the route is longer because BEng is not accredited by SARTOR (body who approve institutions for engineering) for most Universities.

You a basically not really at a disadvantage. It will just take you longer to become chartered, that's all.

In my experience, if you are doing well on your first two years of the BEng, the University will consider upgrading you to a MEng, so study hard and you'll be OK!!!
