Question:

Is Man City going to be the new Chelsea ?

Chelsea, as we all know had to spend zillions on their trophies since Roman's arrival, sometimes £50 million per summer spent on players like Essien, Mutu, Drogba, etc etc

Now City bought Robinho for £32 million yesterday, and they beat Chelsea for his signature. They'll spend more and more every summer because money is not a problem for them, Is it their time to rise to the top and be the "best club in the league", as their owners said yesterday ?

  1. I fear that we are going to be despised by other clubs fans. If you`ve more money than anyone else i think it devalues it slightly if you win anything. I

  2. There can never be a 'best club in the league' because no matter how much you spend you can't get much better than what Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United already have. Look at Chelsea...they have the strongest squad in the Premiership on paper and they're still one of the richest clubs, but they haven't won the title in two years and they're still in a title race with Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd every season. No matter how many stars you sign it's still going to be almost impossible to emulate the big four of English football. It will become a big five probably...but not this season. I think Robinho might flop big time.

  3. It would appear so, its not really about having the best managers and real talent but how much you have in your pocket.

The owner of QPR is richer than Abromovich ...

    And Robinho is 24 y.o.

  4. They don't have the base that Chelsea had.  Chelsea had a team good enough to finish fourth in the league in 02-03, with Gallas, Terry, Lampard and Gudjohnsen.  They then spent with little purpose, but signed some decent players in Joe Cole, Duff and Makalele, and most importantly Robben and Cech, then Mourinho added the defenders and Drogba.  That's how they got as good as they did in two seasons.

City are miles behind Liverpool and Arsenal, not to mention United and Chelsea.  They'll sign loads of players in January, struggle to blend them, finish sixth, sign loads more players who are good but not top drawer, struggle to mesh them, be about seventh come next November and sack Mark Hughes to bring in an international manager to sign countless more players who are good but not top drawer, maybe finish fourth at the end of 2009-10 due to Liverpool's ongoing inability to sign creative players.

  5. certainly not

  6. They actually beat Man U to get his signature.

No offence to the guy (Robinho) but he is good but not the best and £32million for a 27 year old might not be a good investment.

Man City haven't won a major trophie for 33 years, so I don't think they will get too good in a hurry.

  7. I totally agrees with red_coat, Chelsea had a good enough base before they began to spend big. As a Chelsea fan, I am disappointed that Robindo didn't join Chelsea. I believe his ability can shine more in the Chelsea squad.

  8. I think they will be more liked than Chelsea and will win the league within 4 years.

If I was Arsenal or Liverpool at this point then I would be worrying. Man Utd and Chelsea have the cash to secure the top 2 spots for the Champions league qualifying. Now add Man City into the mix and one of those teams will lose out on the big payout.

Benitez & Wenger need to up their game, and I can see Benitez being the one who will lose out.

  9. yes i definitely think Man City are going to become the new Chelsea..

now that they are owned by Arabs, Man City will be looking to target lots of trophies and definitely will break into the top 4.

It has only been 1 day since the arabs took charge and they have already bought Robinho! Man City are a team to look out for this year.

  10. Most defiantly yes!

  11. they aint the next chelsea

    just coz they signed robinho

    he aint even all that

32.5 million he aint worth it

thank god chelsea didnt buy him

    hes a waste of money

    i mean

what have man city won in the last 30 years ?

    BIG FAT 0

  12. I dun think Man City will be.As Man City is buying players,Chelsea is also building up their squad.

  13. he's 24 bethmo u stupid bugger

  14. I hope not - Chelsea stinks. I hope they will be the new Man City.

  15. It's possible, but they still have to

    Finish in the top 4

    Win FA Cup

Win League two years in a row

    Win League Cup twice

    Reach UEFA Champions League Final.

In short, dream on. Just because they bought one player does not mean they will be the new Chelsea.

Many say that Chelsea have no history.

City LITERALLY do not have a history. Aside from being relegated a couple of times.

    But good luck to them.

  16. It certainly looks like it,doesn't it?I doubt it though.I don't expect Man City to do anything major this season. If they wish to compete with the cream of the EPL crop, and ultimately Europe's,they would need a major upheaval of their players.Elano and Petrov are good players, but they are not of Robinho's calibre. If you look at the top clubs in Europe, they boast top players from every continent. The Ronaldo's,Kaka's,Messi's,Lampard's, etc. Robinho is a great player, but he cannot bring Man City to glory by himself.ADUG has a long-term goal, but I don't expect them to have the patience to see the goal come to fruition.

  17. yes, and yes and yes again,

manchester city will become a new "superpower" of english football.

edit - Robinho is only 24 years old!!

  18. we tell billionair owners to pee off but other clubs welcome them with open arms.

do we even want to move forward.
