Is Mardi Gras celebrated in Florence or Rome in Italy? What kinds of celebrations do they have?

I thought about going to Venice for Mardi Gras while I'm on holiday in Italy, but it would really be far out of the way. I'm from New Orleans and want to see how others celebrate the holiday. I've heard that Rome and Florence (or any other towns around there.....Siena, Assisi, Naples) do something that day to celebrate. Any help? Are there any websites that can help me find info?

Mardi grass is french for "martedì grasso" wich is also a celebration in italy,  the all celebration in italy is called Carnevale and usually last for 10 days.

mardi gras is celebrated almost in every city in italy. it's called "carnevale". you shouldn't miss the one in venice. it has the best masquerades and it's second only to the famous brasilian one which i believe takes place in san paolo. enjoy it

Yes, it's the end of Carnival (although some local tradition may differ, like in Milan).

Every city/town has its own tradition about Carnival, so it depends where you go; the more important Carnivals are in Viareggio, Venice, Ivrea then also Putignano, Acireale and others.

Alas Rome isn't on top of the list.

I want to comment that the person before me is full of ****. Mardi Gras and Martedì Grasso both mean Fat Tuesday.

I think Mardi Gras in uniquely French and I don't even think they celebrate it over there anymore.
