Paul Williams has 1 loss on his record which he avenged by knocking Quintana out in the first Rd.........................................

Margarito has 5 losses on his record one of which is to Paul Williams!..................................

It was Williams that BEAT THE BELT OFF MARGARITO IN THE FIRST PLACE!.....................................

Now Margarito is calling Oscar a coward for not making a match, but Williams is right there a GREAT PAY PER VIEW OPPONENT, and I read in another answer that Williams is even calling out Margarito!, instead the Margarito camp is trying to put together a Clottey rematch!

So is acting like a coward NOW?- YES OSCAR IS TOO!

BUT WHAT ABOUT MARGARITO DUCKING WILLIAMS!

WHO IS THE REAL CHAMP AT 147LBS WILLIAMS OR MARGARITO?

  1. This question is simple- Paul Williams is currently the "man to beat" at welterweight.  Yeah, Antonio Margarito beat Miguel Cotto...but guess who beat Margarito already?  Paul Williams did, and it wasn't even that long ago, so people can't try and say "Oh, well Margarito wasn't at his peak condition" or some bullshit excuse like that.  Everyone is always saying how Margarito is not afraid of anyone, and I believe thats true, but if he really wanted to prove himself as the true welterweight champion of the world, the he would be fighting a rematch with Williams instead of one with Joshua Clottey (a guy he already beat).  He should be telling Bob Arum to get the Williams rematch done instead of letting his promoter talk about how he doesn't want to match him with Williams becuase he has a grudge with one of Williams' advisors.  Put simply- if Margarito was the man to beat at 147 pounds, we wouldn't be discussing this right now; there is a debate as to who is the best, but in my eyes Williams already proved that he is the best welterweight in the world when he beat Margarito.  Then, you get a whole bunch of people trying to say that the decision was "controversial or extremely close" but the reality is that it was neither.  Williams won that fight hands down by a unanimous decision; the scores were 116-112, 116-112, and 115-113.  Even if it was a 15 round fight, Margarito still would have lost on points.  Williams beat him clearly by doing what Margarito usually does to his opponents- outwork them and wear them down with a ton of punches; he got beat at his own game.  If Margarito always gets stronger as the rounds go on, then why did Paul win the last round of that fight on all 3 scorecards?  Bottom line is that Williams beat him clearly and without controversy and until Margarito beats "The Punisher" in a rematch, then it will be PAUL WILLIAMS who is the man to beat at welterweight, and NOT Antonio Margarito.  In order to be the best, you've got to beat the best, and Margarito hasn't done that yet- he took a good step by beating Cotto but that doesn't change the fact that he lost to Williams and he still has yet to beat him.

  2. Antonio Margarito is the man. He does need to fight Williams again to prove the loss was a fluke. Margarito is not ducking Williams, Margarito will knock Williams out if they fight again.

  3. PAUL WILLIAMS WON BY LUCKY DECISON.. IF U SAW THAT FIGHT MARGARITO STARTED OFF SLOW LIKE HE DOES BUT AFTER THE 5TH ROUND MARGARITO WAS CONNECTING GOOD POWER SHOTS TO THE BODY AND FACE.. PAUL WILLIAMS ALMOST GOT KNOCKED OUT TWICE.. PAUL WILLIAMS WON BY LUCK, THE JUDGES WHERE WATCHING A DIFFERENT FIGHT.. ASK ANYONE THAT SAW THAT FIGHT, MARGARITO DESERVED TO WIN AT LEAST BY 4 ROUNDS.. MARGARITO'S NEXT OPPENENT IS CLOTTEY (NOV. 1 PRETTY SURE), AFTER HE KO'S HIM.. COTTO SHOULD RECOVER AND FIGHT PAUL WILLIAMS (COTTO SHOULD WIN) THEN THE WINNER OF THAT FIGHT SHOULD FIGHT MARGARITO..

  4. i think margarito BUT since williams beat margo, the next thing to do is margo vs williams rematch, and then that's the real champ....if this rematch happens i think williams will get murdered. looking forward to margaritos next match, whoever it is......

  5. tony is the better man, he beat the best welter cotto. but tony does have unfinished buisness with williams.

first of all after tony lost to williams , tony asked for a rematch. williams and goosen said no that he had to wait in line. ok

now tony had to wait in line to fight cotto. he fought him and beat him. now williams wants tony. williams now has to wait in line.

oscar has one fight left and tony wants to get paid.  let tony fight oscar or anybody else and let williams rack up some more wins that way it would make the showdown even better when they meet again. williasms aint no coward and so aint tony.

  6. MARGARITO, HOWEVER HE HAS TO AVENGE HIS LOSS TO PRETTY BOY WILLIAMS.

  7. Margarito bcuz HE IS DA CHAMP n knocked the *** out of  cotto n williams isnt a famed boxer n isnt  a ppv type match

  8. First you have to consider the level of oppossition each has faced:

Margarito has fought the following top 10 welter weights:

Miguel Cotto and won by TKO

Kermit Cintron and won by KO twice

Paul Williams and lost a Unanimous decision

Joshua Clottley and won a Unanimous decision

Paul Williams has fought the following top ten welterweights:

Antonio Margarito and won a Unanimous decision

Carlos Quintana twice and lost a Unanimous decision and won by TKO

Secondly, you must consider the fact that Margarito has faced the tougher competition. His lost to Williams should not diminish the fact that he knoced out two of the top 10 welterweights, both with unbeaten records at the time of their first fight, one of them twice, the other the top welterweight of the division and the one who dominated and brutally knocked out the same figher who handed Williams his first lost via a Unanimous decision. Let's not forget that Margarito also handed the unbeaten Clottley his first lost via a Unanimous Decision.

Thirdly, three of Margarito's five loses came very early in his career, all prior to 1997. Since then, Margarito has tasted defeat only twice.

Fourth, the fact that Margarito is calling out Oscar is a no brainer. This fight is the lotto ticket every fighter and their mother would love to win.

Last, the fact that he is considering Clottley ahead of Williams should not conclude that he is ducking him. If you remember, Cotto fans were making the same judgement when Margarito chose to fight Williams ahead of their fighter. The Williams rematch will happen. Margarito just feels that he has something to prove against Clottley first.

The real Champ? Margartio, hands down.

  9. it is funny how a win makes you forget about a loss. unitl margarito beats williams, williams will always be the man above margarito  simple as that. fraizer wasn't the man until he beat ali, tyson wasn't until he beat spinks,

  10. Margarito is number 1. Paul Williams didn't beat the beast(Miguel Cotto)

Margarito is NOT ducking anyone, he just wants a big payday.

  11. Antonio Margarito is the man to beat at welterweight, despite the fact that Paul Williams does have a win over him. Even with that victory, it wasn't a convincing one. Since their meeting over a year ago, Margarito has had the better year than Williams. Margarito is 3-0 since that time with first round TKO over Golden Johnson, amazing KO of Kermit Cintron and then the outstanding victory TKO victory over Miguel Cotto, who was in talks as pound-for-pound best. Paul Williams is only 1-1 and that record is against one opponent, Carlos Quintana. Thought Williams may have avenged that lost in shocking fashion, it was the lost that hurt Williams when comparing the two and also may have delayed opportunities for Williams to move forward with what he wants to accomplish in the sport.

I don't think Margarito is ducking Williams. Oscar is just a bigger pay-per-view buy and Margarito is probably thinking that this is his last chance at getting a shot at Oscar De La Hoya. Williams will still be around and available long after De La Hoya is gone. So I'm sure Margarito has plans for meeting Williams again.

  12. Williams he put hands on Margarito like Margarito does to every one else. Williams is the top welterweight until Margarito beats him might even have to beat him twice. To really prove he's hands down the best at welter weight

  13. Excuses Excuses Excuses. Oscar has made it plain, he's not going to fight Rito. Rito don't bring money and never have. His biggest pay day is 1.5 to 1.6 mil. Were is the money he bringing? Cotto was #1 because he was undefeated and PBF retired. Clottey, Williams, Rito, Berto, and Cintron. Cotto didn't have a x on one of these guy's. Cotto had a x on a over rated Quintana, wash up Judah and Mosley. All these guy's deserve a big pay day, not just Rito because he beat Cotto. Everyone complain about PBF fighting for money, why do Rito get a pass. Williams camp offered 4mil to fight Rito and they are ducking. Wasn't that the same thing they siad PBF was doing? Sound like hiyporites to me. They claim Cotto was #1 before he fought Rito and he didn't beat any of the top guy's. Just like Rito said, he not #1 because he havent fought the best and he prove it on July 26. Williams beat Rito and he's not #1. What do you call it? PBF wasn't #1 either, he didn't beat a top guy. If we are rating on how many top Welter they have under there belt( You have Rito). If you rate on who beat the top guy( We have Williams). That would leave Cotto and PBF out the picture than. Rito have more top Welter under his belt, than anyone in the Welter division. Cintron-x, Clottey-x and Cotto-x. Quintana--x and Rito--x that's it for Williams. Cotto was only #1 because they didn't like PBF, they was looking for a likeable replacement, they threw him up there and he quickly fell off. Rito turn down the rematch. Cintron pull out because he had  a injured hand.

  14. First of all, Clottey is no easy match, especially after fighting Cotto. That was a tough fight for Margarito, and now that Clottey has a belt, this fight still makes sense.

I agree that he should fight Williams again, but since boxing is a business, I understand Margarito trying to get an easy money fight with DLH.

Overall though, you still have to say that Margarito is the man at welter. Lets looks at some facts. He is considered a top 10 p4p. He is more of a "star" in the sport of boxing than any other welter and he would be the name that brings in the bigger draw in a match vs clottey or williams so in essence, Margarito is seen as the top person at 147lbs.
