I'm an American who wishes to moke to the UK eventually. From what I read on the web site, it seems like a marriage visa would be the easiest route to take, then apply for full citizenship after two years. I DO NOT JUST WANT TO MARRY A BRIT FOR CITIZENSHIP! If I want to move there, naturally I'm going to want to marry someone there, so I might as well do it and gain citizenship as a bonus.

  1. Marrying a 'Brit' is not a guarantee of the right to live in the UK. Why not apply for a work permit?

One thing you should remember when 'interviewing' a spouse, make sure they are British, make sure they have citizenship. Just because someone is born or living in the UK does not mean they are British. You could end up marrying the wrong person! Imagine that!

  2. correction, cant apply for citizenship after a 2 year wait....its five years residency in the UK before you can apply...

  3. Actually, it's 3 years...

  4. you can marry, but it's your choice if you want to be with someone that you do not really love at all.
