Hello, I have been selling Mary Kay for about 3 months; so I dont know a whole lot about the company. Each time I attend meetings our directors tells the customers that Mary Kay has been #1 for the past 6 years or more? How can I get proof of that?

  1. Mac is #1

    Avon (mark )is #2

  2. Maybe its number one because it is easily accesible.

It is Ok makeup but not the best.

Its hard to make a profit selling them.

I would encourage you to think twice about selling Mary Kay. Although their products are terrific, it is very hard to turn a profit by selling them. I have sold it twice.

The first time I sold it with no inventory. I was convinced the reason I didn't succeed at it was that I had no inventory.

So, the second time I tried it, I invested in a $5000 inventory along with my initial $100 sign-up fee. Believe it or not, even with $5000 worth of product, you never have exactly what you need when the customer wants it

is impossible to predict at that level how many of each product you are going to need after the first month or two.

So, after about two months, you end up making small orders at a much lower discount level on a fairly frequent basis.

That lower discount level equates to a smaller profit margin for you. Then add in the cost of advertising your small business, sales aids, etc., and there goes the profit!

  3. They may be #1 in some really small category.

I know mark. is #2 among trend brands. (With the much more expensive MAC as #1.)

  4. I think its

    Clinique,

    Estee Lauder,

    Lancome,

    Chanel

and then Artistry coming in 5th

  5. Yeah right -- It isn't taught at Harvard, either. Ask your director if she has a source for any of this.

Most sales are to their consultants, who store them in the den until they quit and return it to the company or sell on eBay. Even then, Mary Kay claims to sell some $300 million (to its own people, remember) per year, next to L'Oreal's $20 BILLION (97 percent from cosmetics). Mary Kay is between #6 and #10.

It's impossible to get real figures out of Mary Kay, because it's a privately held company and doesn't produce annual statements. (Therefore, it also can't be and never was a Fortune 500 company, which are publicly traded.)

  6. This is a study done by independent market researchers I can't remember the name because being #1 doesn't phase me I just know it is a great product.  However this year we opted out of the study because it wanted Mary Kay Inc to release consultant information so the company chose to protect the consultant in lue of the rating.  You can actually call the company to get answer to any questions you have about Mary Kay it is the 800 number on ntuche there is even a directory so you can get facts as oppose to speculation and opinion.

I see Gravy is questioning the following information not sure why but here is what I found on Mary Kay Intouch

Fiction: Mary Kay management principles are taught

    at Harvard.

Fact: Case studies on Mary Kay’s business model have been shared at the collegiate level at several prestigious

universities. Professors and college text-book writers have contacted Mary Kay Inc. to learn more about Mary Kay Ash and the Company she founded.

I think it is a case of whisper down the lane and taking out of content however Mary Kay was a remarkable women with great business sense and did win many prestige award for that reason I am not surprised her business plan is being studies and even mimicked.

  7. I think it depends on supply and demand. I know where I live, it isn't as available as other products, so it can't be number 1 here.

  8. i think mary kate is a good brand

i have all mary kate makeup
