After 9 shots, he was 3 scores ahead. But his last shot got only 4.4, which put an end to his dream of winning the gold medal. He shot a wrong target in Athens in 2004, and got a super low score in Beijing in 2008, while his wife won the first gold medal. My greatest sympathy for him.

  1. He's VERY FORTUNATE to be able to compete in the Olympics just not as fortunate as he hoped.

    Boo hoo hoo(sarcasm).

  2. It is not uncommon that top atheles performed badly at critical moments. Matthew Emmons is not the only top athele in 2008 Olympics who suffered from this kind of misfortune.  However, 2 Olympics in a row and 2 serious mistakes both in final ring is really unfortunate. It is more likely caused by  psychological factor than pure bad luck. He could be either too stressful or too relax on the final ring.

Hope he can get over with it, come back and win the next Olympics.

  3. As a Chinese fan, I had to celebrate winning the gold out of nowhere, but I did feel really bad for him, as did the Chinese fans who applauded when he hugged his wife.  He did say that his first miss in Athens brought his wife to him, so hopefully something good will come out of his one too.

EDIT: Check that.  Liu Xiang is the most unfortunate athlete in the Olympics.
