vacationing anywhere in Mexico?

Canadian, Brenda Martin is found guilty of what? Accepting her severance pay as a cook fom her former Canadian boss Alyn Waagefor. Martin was found guilty of being part of a $60-million internet fraud scheme run by Canadian Alyn Waage, who was convicted of fraud in 2006. He is serving a 10-year term in a U.S. prison.Martin maintained her innocence, saying she worked for Waage only as a chef. Waage has testified Martin was unaware of his activities.

Along with the five-year prison sentence, Martin was fined 35,800 pesos.

The nature of Mexico's justice system, which does not include oral trials and puts the onus on the accused to prove his or her innocence rather than on the prosecution to prove guilt, meant Martin had to wait out the legal process in jail.

  1. They have a way to go to be as corrupt as Illinois.

  2. This situation is entirely outrageous.  The lawyer for Waage was given a house (worth millions) and is free to walk the streets.  Brenda Martin should not be imprisoned for accepting a severance package.  Regardless of whether it's dirty money, she did not knowingly commit a crime.  If she did commit a crime according to Mexican law, how does one explain police officers accepting bribes and not being held accountable?

Mexico isn't the only country guilty of a corrupt justice system, it just happens to be one that has a Canadian entangled in it.  If there were no foreigners dealing with this situation, western countries wouldn't give a toss.

  3. It has always appeared that the Mexican system is lacking in the very precepts of justice, and yes in many cases is corrupt.

Hopefully Brenda will be extradited to Canada to serve her sentence, and only then will she receive justice as we here know it.
